Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of Feb. 3, 1904. Racing at New Orleans, Los Angeles and Oakland. Starters Dick Dwyer and Jake Holtman will succeed Mars Cassidy at Highland Park and Fort Erie tracks this summer. W. O. Parmer, secretary of the club, received a message from Dwyer accepting the offer. Raymond Weddcrstrand will go to Memphis, Tenn., where he will exercise Bud Mays horse3 in training there. "Ray," as he is called, is a brother of "Peck" Weddcrstrand, who rode for "Curly" Brown and who has a promising future before him. Africander continues to improve in every way. His legs give comparatively little evidence of the use of the irons on him and he has bodily picked up what he lost by preparation for the firing. He looks to be perfectly able to take up his gallops with the rest of the Hampton Stable string as soon as the weather permits.
