For the first time during tha meeting, ideal conditions prevailed and the big assemblage enjoyed immensely the sport and attending incidents. Some of the racing was unprofitable to a majority. The feature race particularly furnished a big ups-:t when Hopeless, at edds-on, was taken into camp by the Friars Inn Stables Dustabout, capably ridden by Ivan Farke. The star Whitney jockey gave the big throng a sample of the skill that has caused him to be regarded as the best young rider in the country. It was mainly due to his clever skill that Dustabout won. Taylor possibly used bad judgment in not allowing Hopeless full sway in the early stages, which possibly would have resulted in Dustabout being raced into early defeat. Taylor also blundered when he expected Parke to let him through next the inner rail. The Friars Inn Stable, like Parke, scored a double during the afternoon. Lugs pre- viously having scored under Barrett. It missed a triple when Sequel, another of its representatives, could only finish in second place. Another severe jolt that the public experienced was in the fourth race in which they centered on Dotson. He was pounds the best, but the blundering rido he got by J. Wallace was responsible frr his defeat. Had Wallace taken him around the leaders in the stretch lie would have won handily. He elected, however, to take him next the rail, with the result that he was unable to get through and kept him in close quarters to the finish. Parke won here in handy style with Blanche Mao over Quesada. Dubson had no opposition for third place. The racing b.gan with an upset when Brother John, in the opener, failed to get a portion of the purse. Cobweb, showing suddenly improved form, winning over Se- quel, with Modna landing third. Star Girl, at short odds, proved much the best of the starters in the second race, in which a dozen maiden two-year-olils started. She won in a big canter from Captam Schneller and Bad Luck. The concluding race found Kd Pendleton installed the favored one, and he made good handily from Pretty Politician, with Wapiti getting up in time for third place. A. S. Day claimed Fd Pendleton for ,000. W. H. Hall took Wapiti out of the race for ,200.
