McTaxrart TORONTO, Ont., May 16. — Fourteen horses In eleven interests were named overnight for the sixtieth renewal of the Kings Plate upon the occasion of the opening of the Canadian Racing Associations circuit at the Woodbine course tomorrow. The Kings Plate is one of seven races In the inaugural program. Next in interest to the 1924 running of the oldest stake race on the North American racing calendar is the thirty-eighth renewal of the Aintree Steeplechase. The Plate has an added value of 110,000 besides the 50 guineas donated by His Majesty King George V. The jumping race has an added value of ,000. The Royal donation to the Kings Plate was made in 1859 by Queen Victoria through | Edward Head, Governor General of the Dominion. The race originally was known as the Queens Plate and was run at various tracks under that name until 188.1, when it was established permanently at the "Woodbine course. Upon the death of the Queen the race became known as the Kings Tlate, 1902 being the first year of the stakes renewal under that name. Even when Canadian racing was suspended In 1918 and 1919 because of the war, the Ontario Jockey Club staged one day of sport In each twelfth-month to provide for the continuity of the fixture. SEAGRAM STABLE EOTST. The Seagram Stable, winner of the Kings Plate In 1923, has Isoletta and Beau of the West among the entries this year. The pair probably will be favorite. Johnny Williams, after a years absence from the races, has gotten down to 101 pounds by exercising horses for Miller Henderson and will apply for a license to ride on the Canadian circuit. Henderson has be«-n here for a month with some horses from the strings of J. E. Madden and the Audley Farm Stable. W. Irvine and J. Hodgins motored from Baltimore. Irvine will campaign the stable of E. F. Whitney at Woodbine and then ship to New York. 1 J. P. Smith found it necessary to leave Donaghee in Maryland as a result of his being cut down in the Preakness. Lew Williams is In charge of his treatment. Roy Gordon will make riding engagements for E. Scobie and W. Boganowski. Scobie will do the riding for E F. Whitney. Boganowski is working for Charles Irby. Ten Buttons, in the string of C. Irby brought here from Tijuana, died after arrival. W. "Red" Walker is predicting a good year for Jimmy Stevens, a maiden rider in his care. Stevens is a Toronto boy and a brother to Freddy Stevens, whose contract was bought from Walker recently by A. C. Bostwick. WIKTER CAMPAIGNERS HERE. Arthur Brent. Tod Sherrard, Wes Sher-rard. Jack White, Joe Dreyer, W. Walker and A. L. Austin are among the horsemen whose stock has been resting at Woodbine ein/e the close of their winter campaigns. Stanley Gillespie, who is associated with A. K Alexandra, will make riding engagements for W. Marriner. Owen Pons reported from Columbus, where he served as entry clerk. Danny Randall, whose home is in Toronto, is under contract to Pons. This boy won on two of five mounts at Columbus and has other brackets to his credit. J. "BYoggie" Slagie is making his engagements. George Land is here with Mary Dear, Milt, Traymore and Sentiment. Mary Dear belongs to E C. Walker. Milt is the property of M. C. Dudley and the other two run in the silks of M. C. Cundis. Johnny Owens, who did so well over this circuit two seasons ago, will do the stable riding. A. Gantner will apply for a license to ride for J. W. Healey. R. Romane-lli is in the employ of H. G4d-dings. Astride St Paul he won the Kings Plate for the Oakdale owner four years ago. W. Milner, on a visit to his home here, will apply for a license to ride through the meeting, after which he will report to T. W. OBrien in New York. Edward White, after a winter at his home near Hamiltem, reported in good health. He will have charge of the jockey rooms on the- Canadian circuit again this summer.
