SWEEPSTAKES followed RUNAWAY closely to the stretch turn, from where he moved up rapidly into a long lead at the end. PICNIC began slowly, but c;ime fast through the homestretch and easily passed RUNAWAY in the last eighth. The latter set a good pace to the last eighth and tired. Won easily; second and third driving. VERDANT VALLEY, a safe jumper, but lacking great speed, w re the tiring leaders down and drew away after taking the last jump to win easing up. ALTAR FIKE raced into the had after CANAQUE lost his rider at the thii teenth ji:mp, but tired badly in the last eighth and his BSB«M ■ slipped at some time during ItM race. MADR1E was much used in racing with CAN.UJl K and tired CANAQUE stumbled and went to his kne. s at the thirteenth jump and lost his rider. McDOKAN fell at the ninth jump, but was remounted and tifished the course. FORGE AHEAD f-il at the last jump where he was moving up and CHARLTON Ml at the fourth. TRAIL P.I.AZER made a wide turn when entering the homestretch and tired in the final drive. UPTOWN ran well, but pulled up lame. PLEASURE BENT ran away a mile while on the way to the post. PARMACHENEE BMXE raced in the middle of the track to the stretch turn, where she came wide and. finishing fast, wore the leaders down and outgamed HELEN BUCK in the final drive. The latter ran well, but tired after going to the front inside f the eighth post. CRINKLE saved ground on all the turns and outgamed MARY DEAR in the final drive. The latter was made too mu*:h use of iu pacemaking and quit. AMBULANCE was kicked by MARY DEAR while at the post. Scratched — 7S345 Shasta Express, 102. OPPERMAN, running in suddenly and greatly improved form, raced under restraint until rounding the far turn, from where he moved up quickly and, saving ground when entering the homestretch, fought it out with DKEP THOUGHT and outgamed the latter in the final drive. DBBP THOUGHT was under restraint for the first five-eighths and moved up rapidly on the outside, but tired after taking the lead at the head of the homestretch. FLYING FUR finished with a rush and was going fastest of them all at the end. GOLDKN BII.U1WS set the early pace and tired badly.
