TRAINER W. PERKINS FINED LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 19.— On Friday last W. Perkins, trainer of Ed Pendleton, came before the stewards and charged that A. S. Day, the owner of Wapiti, had endeavored to intimidate him by stating that he would claim Ed Pendleton if the latter started in the seventh race of that day. Upon this statement the stewards withheld j the delivery of the horse until the matter i could be investigated, which was at once begun. This investigation developed the fact that Perkins had made a false statement. He charged that Day had approached him about 8 a. m. Friday morning at Churchill Downs. Day denied this and three reputable witnesses testified that Day was at Douglas Park at that hour and for several hours later. Ierkins had no witnesses whatever to corroborate his charge. The stewards directed that an order of delivery for Ed Pendleton be issued to A. S. Day. Perkins was fined 50 for making a false charge. The stewards have been scrutinizing all claims closely since the meeting began.
