June 4. — The chief attraction at Ak-Sar-Ben field today was the run- ning of the ,000 Ak-Sar-Ben Queens Plate and the event attracted a small but select field of sprinters which vied for honors over a three-quarters course. The race marked the initial appearance here of The Araucan- ion, and this consistent runner, coupled with Judge Pryor, winner of the Inaugural Handicap, ruled an odds-on choice in the mutuel wagering. Pitted against these two were the Jones Stock Farm, entry consisting of Second Thoughts and Go Foin, while C. B. Irwin elected to send his grand old performer Abadane and Chiva to the post to represent him. Abadane was home first after surviving a desperate duel In which he engaged The Araucanian, Go Foin and Second Thoughts. These four an eighth out were racing head and head, but nearing the goal post the gallant French-bred gelding proved the gam-est and won going away by a length and a half. In second place came Second Thought, which in turn beat The Araucanian by a nose. Another track record was established here today when Koronga. from the stable of C. B. Irwin, won the initial dash for two-year- olds, running the half mile in 48 seconds. C. B.
