WHIRLWIND, beginning fast and showing sudden improvement, set a Rrcat pace, but wan tiring at the end and driving hard to outstay GOLDEN FLOSS. The latter came fast at the end and was wearing the winner down. PUFF BALL ran well and outgamed MARY MAXIM in the stretch drive. BESS L. ran well to the last eighth. ARABIAN met with slight interference at the half mile post, but recovered quickly and passed ST. MARTINS easily. The latter ran moderately well. DODONA was always beaten. TURNBERRY, also saved to the stretch, outpaced JOY SMOKE through the last seventy yards. JOY SMOKE set a fast pace and, after racing GOLDFIELD into defeat, tired badly in the stretch drive.
