EPINARD RACES AT BELMONT PARK MONDAY -5ft First of International Specials Feature of Glorious Labor Day Program Zev, Wilderness, Wise Counsellor, Ladkin, Goshawk, Snob II. and Other Stars Named to Oppose the Invader NEW YORK, N. Y., August 30. A program of splendid quality is offered by the Westchester Racing Association for its opening at Belmont Park on Monday. The throng will not only see the French champion Epinard in battle with the fleetest American sprinters in the first of the International Series for 00,000, at three-quarters, but they will enjoy the usual stake offerings for Labor Day and an augmented overnight card for which no purse will be less than ,000. Naturally the chief magnet of attraction one that has captured the attention of horse lovers all over the North American continent is the race in which Epinard is to display the dazzling speed that has made him the most talked-of thoroughbred in Great Britain and his native France. It is to see him in action that men and women will come from all parts of the United States and the Dominion of Canada. The interest that has developed in Epinard is quite equal to that shown in Papyrus last flOntnhpr. There is no gainsaying the fact that these international races have played the part for which they were designed. They-have" commanded the attention of a host of representative people who had little or no knowledge of the turf until their inception and the outcome must be for gocd. The quality of the gathering that saw the English Derby winner go down to defeat last October was such as to cause comment in the press of the country. The advance sales of seats for Monday guarantees the presence of another throng representative of the hest elements of the country. Epinard will have opponents worthy of his steel in Mondays race. Eleven fleet Yankees will measure strides with the "flying- Frenchman." Those named to represent America in the first of the International Specials are Zev, Ladkin, Wilderness, Wise Counsellor, Worthmore, Miss Star, Snob II., Goshawk, Rialto, Baffling and Little Chief. Each and every one of the American entries is gifted with a high order of speed and on the whole well able to represent this country against the French invader. The International Special will be the fourth race on the card. Prior to it the throng will see some of the best two-year-clds in the time-honored Juvenile Stakes and the pick of all ages that are not named for the feature of the day in the Manhattan Handicap. For those who are fond of the crosscountry branch of the turf there is a fine steeplechase with a high-class entry, so that the tastes of every visitor will be catered to in the course of an afternoon that promises to be historic. .
