G. A. COCHRANS NEW TRAINER NEW YORK, N. Y., Sept 11. Gifford A. Cochran today appointed John Whalen trainer of his stable to succeed Carroll Shilling. Whalen took charge of the establishment this afternoon and plans for the remainder of the season are to campaign over Metropolitan and Maryland tracks. Whalen has trained a host of good ones in his time, notably Watervale, for August Belmont; Buskin, for his own account and Boots for the late Oscar Lewissohn.
