Joseph Murphy is hero and will remain for the balance of the Maryland season when will depart for Miami. Mr. Murphy besides being the great handicapper is an ardent fisherman and last winter had the pleasure of making the greatest catch in a single day of any of the sportsmen who winter in the Florida city. Newton Bennington, who raced one of the most extensive strings at one time, on the big circuit is at the course looking very chipper. He is another horseman who prefers the racing in Maryland with the "iron men" than with the oralizers in New York. There is a well founded report here that the Thorncliffe track in Toronto will next year race under the jurisdiction of the Canadian Racing Association. The Thorncliffe plant now said to be one of the most up-to-date race courses in Canada. Jockey Marinelli left for New York last night Jockey Newton Barrett was an arrival from Kentucky. His engagements are being looked after by D. Louder. L. G. Bedwell is here with two jumpers the property of his father. They are Chief Archee and Far East. The pair were schooled through the field today. Jockey E. Scobie who is riding the horses being trained by J. W. Healey was an arrival from New York. O. E. Pons reports that Aunt Jane has been thrown out of training due to wrenching one of her ankles a few days back. Trainer J. J. Duggan of the C. B. Shafer stable, dislocated his arm while leading one of his charges from the cars to the stable yesterday. Oscar Weikert, one of the old guard of bookmakers clerks, is here after spending several weeks on a bridal tour through Can- ada. Mr. Weikert surprised his friends by announcing his marriage to Agnes J. Cowle, of White Tlains, at the Little Church Around the Corner in New York on July 31. Preston Burch, who recently returned from a tour of inspection of the mares which his employer, George Wingfield, has in Kentucky, reports that all are doing well and that the weanlings are an extra good looking lot
