VIRGO, badly outpaced in the early racing, came fast in the stretch and was going fastest of all at the fiuish. I.EH ENFIELD was also outrun in. the early stages and made a fast and game finish. PRANCING PRINCE raced into the lead soon after the start, showed the way throughout, but was doing his best to withstand the closing challenge of DIOMED. The latter was outrun to the stretch where he came fast when called on and would have won in another stride or two. WHALEBONE quit after going well to the last eighth. WINNIE OWYNN, outpaced in the early running, finished fast and just failed to get up. BRUNETH closed fast after a slow beginning, but tired in the closing strides. Won easily; second and third driving. LADY FOX, well ridden, moved into the lead soon after the start, but had to be shaken up at the finish to withstand the rush of DOC HORN. The latter forced a fast early pace and was doing his best at the finish, but could never get to the winner. DREAMER, well up all the way, finished fast and gamely. The others were always outrun. Won driving; second and third I the same. ROCKY MOUNTAIN went into the lead at the start and was briefly headed turning for home, but came again and just lasted to win. BILLY STAR, forcing a fast pace for the entire distance, tired slightly at the three-sixteenths post, but came on to finish with speed and gameness to lose by the smallest of margins. ST. MARTINS, restrained off the early pace, finished courageously during the , ! stretch run and acted as if short. He should improve from this race. AVONG BOK and BELLE AMIE were never prominent. , 1
