AVarrenton, a well-backed favorite in the steeplechase, proved best under good ling. Mergler took him back from the early pace, waited until the last turn of the field before making his effort When called on Warrenton moved up with a rush but at the end had to be ridden out to stall off Dixon Josephine, which hung on with good courage. These three were the contenders all the way. Ten Sixty, despite Maibens efforts, lacked speed and was never a factor at any stage of the contest Maiben-fode his third winner of the afternoon when he landed Suppliant in front of Episode in the sixth. He rode a patient race on the winner, rating him off pace until making the turn into the homestretch where he moved up with a rush and easily disposed of Episode.
