Brysons Guelph, under 112 pounds, had to be much the best , to win the Nanticoke .Claiming Handicap by a neck. Scoop finished second. Rock Pocket was third. Guelph dwelt at the" start, but Morris got him in motion quickly only to run him on the heels of horses at first turn. He pulled him to outside losing much ground and settled down to his business with only the lowly Thomasine beaten in a field of six. Meanwhile, Welfinder was in front with. Scoop following closest under greater restraint than the. pacemaker. Jn the back stretch Guelph- began to gain on the leaders. On the second turn Wellfinder tired and Scoop inherited the lead. Guelph -gained steadily after starting his challenge and got up in the last sixteenth to win going away. Rock Pocket was outrun but held on fairly well for the small portion, finishing five lengths behind the, front pair and four in front of Kings Court. The Nanticoke Handicap was the best of an "ordinary lot of races on the Friday card. The crowd was good, running "about 12.00Q. t Orpheus," racing for the Salubria Stable, beatvthirteen other, maidens of. various ages in the three-quarters of the opening dash. Blueand Red and Mensis divided the remainder of the, purse. vJ3.vBreuning had the mount on the winner. Odd Seth raced close to the leader from the start but was tiring at the end and Jolly, moving up on the inside, passed him in the closing stride for second money. In a stride or two more Jelly would have beaten Blackstone. Breuning completed a double with Black-stones victory. Under good rating by J. Maiben, Mountain Rose II. came from far back in. the third, got up on the rail at the end cf the mile and a sixteenth to win by-a neck from Dream of the Valley. The Reaper saved third money from ten other cheap platers. Two-year-olds of 1924 went a mile for the first time in the fourth. It was a claiming race for the better grade of platers. Margie K. won all the way under the clever rating of J. Maiben. He donned the silks of J. W. Young to-ride the daughter of Rapid Water Maria C. Fiery Flight pressed her closest all the way and finished second. White Marsh finished third. Margie K. began rapidly and was taken to the front immediately. Fiery Flight dwelt slightly at the start but moved after the leaders quickly, from a position near the inside rail. Margie K. easily outran her company. Fiery Flight was following her handily to the top of the stretch but could not improve under punishment White Marsh was outrun but saved ground all the way and stood punishment gamely to save third place, displacing Mad-denstown at the end. Bruening brought his total of riding victories for the afternoon to three in the sixth race, giving him a lead of one over Maiben in the bid for the days honors. He rode Quotation, which put the name of H. G. Bed- well on the books of the association. Quotation, well rated in front throughout the mile and a sixteenth, finished an easy length in front of Little Clair. The latter always was second in the running. Just, five lengths back of Little Clair, was six lengths in front of Wood Lady at the end. These four were the only starters. Bedwell, liking the taste of victory in the sixth, won the seventh with Cote dOr. Lieb-gold rode the winner. Red Wine finished second in the contest It was at a mile and a sixteenth. Polly Leighton beat the others in a large field of cheap platers.
