GOLDEN ERA OF RACING Money Distribution for Year 1924 to i Exceed 0,000,000 Great Array of Richly Endowed Stake Races Famous Futurity Heads List With Net Value of 5,730 The golden era of the American turf! Verily, these are the days of wonderful prosperity for those engaged in the fascinating sport of racing. "When the complete returns for the year 1924 are known it will be found that the total distribution in stakes and purses by the various racing organizations of North America will have exceeded the 0,000,000 mark, surpassing all previous records. That stupendous sum was made possible by greatly increased racing in various parts cf the country and the offering of many richly endowed stake races. In that array of tempting turf prizes there were four stake events each of which had a net value exceeding 0,000, four others of more than 0,000 and all together there were thirty-nine each of which was worth 0,000 or more to the winner. The famous Futurity, always a barometer of turf values, was the most valuable stake run during 1921. Mother Goose was the winner and her victory added ?G5,730 to the II.- P. "Whitney stable earnings for the year. "When the gallant Sarazen captured the International Special No. 3 at Latonia in one of the fastest races run anywhere he won for his fair owner, Mrs. "W. K. Vanderbilt, the second richest stake event of the year, the stable over which Max Hirsch presides receiving 5,500 because of that victory. The Preakness Stakes, hi which Nellie Morse triumphed, was the third most valuable race of the year, the coffers of "Bud" Fishers stable being enriched to the extent of 1,000 by. the fillys success. The golden anniversary of the Kentucky Derby was celebrated this year and it was only appropriate that the new worlds noted race would have a net value commensurate with its great fame. Such was the case and Black Gold was not only inscribed among its illustrious winners but gave Mrs. It. M. Hoots of Oklahoma the honor of being the first woman owner to win the coveted race and added 2,775 to her stable earnings for the year. The Pimlico Futurity, won by Stimulus and of the net value of 9,200; the Hopeful Stakes, which Master Charlie captured and tbok down 8,700 as his share; the Coffroth Handicap, worth 3,650, and the Belmont Stakes, in which the Rancocas Stables Mad Play scored his greatest triumph and won 2,S00, were among the other outstanding and most valuable stake features of the year. .
