Long-Priced Winners of 1924 There is always more or less fascination in connection with the running of a race, the winner of which scores at exceptionally long odds. A winner at 100 to 1 appeals to the imagination, even though few are ever fortunate enough to hold a winning ticket in such a race. During the year 1921 five horses won at odds exceeding 100 to 1, all at tracks where speculation is conducted by means of the pari-mutuels. The highest-priced winner of the year was Seths Memory at Tijuana February 2:5, the mutuel pay-off being at the rate ot 14 to 1. At the same track on February 9 Voorgold won at odds of 119 .to 1, and the latter price was duplicated when Malzavena won on December 5. also at Tijuana. Another winner at odds exceeding 100 to 1 was IT. C. Basch, whicli paid 11S to 1 in the mutuels at Havana, where both books and mutuels are in operation. Aside from the winter tracks the highest-priced winner elsewhere was at Havre de Grace. Md., when the veteran Jock Scot won on April 10 at odds of 101 to 1. Maternal Pride was another that brought big returns when she triumphed at Churchill Downs May 17, paying at the rate of 95 to 1. Here is a complete list of the long-priced winners of 1921: Owner.
