HOLMAN COLORS IN FRONT Star Sweeper Carries Them to Victory at Columbus — Two First Time Starters Win. COLUMBUS. Ohio, April 21.— S. N. Hol-man scored his first success of the present meeting when his Star Sweeper took the measure of some speedy three-year-olds in the sixth race, which attracted the best field at Beulah Park this afternoon. The son of Star Master was outpaced in the early running, but finished with a wonderful burst of speed through the stretch and headed Katie Dear, the pacemaker, in the last few strides. Golden Locks was crowded back on the first turn, but recovered and raced prominently to the stretch head, then tired, but held the others safe. The victory of the Holman representative marked a double for jockey H. Hay, as he piloted Sam Reh home in the previous race. The weather was cloudy and cool, but a good midweek crowd witnessed the sport. The track was in good condition. A first time starter in One Gold Buck, a two-year-old gelding by Gold Enamel— Smiling Bush, by Smile, made good in the opener, beating the favorite Peter Brush by the best part of a length. The race was strictly between this pair. Another first time starter won in the second when the three-year-old Ginger Pyle led home Buck Jones, Darkwood and seven others. Close finishes marked the running of the third and fourth races, a head separating Fair Break and Step by Step in the third while Follow Me beat Antonia by a neck in the fourth. When Mike Morrissey captured the seventh race handily from Drummond and Woodland Queen it marked the fourth horse to graduate from the maiden ranks during the afternoon. For rough riding in the third race jockey L. Aron was set down for five days by the stewards. Jockey W. McCabe departed last night for Akron. Jockey K. Hileman came in today from Baltimore. J. Clendennin was an arrival today with Collier B.
