Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of April 22, 1905 Racing at Aqueduct, Pimlico, Nashville, San Francisco, Kansas City, Union Park and Fair Grounds at St. Louis. James Arthur arrived at St. Louis today from Memphis with Meadowbreew, which will start in the Woodlawn Trophy tomorrow. Mr. Arthur asked for stable room at the Fair Grounds and talks of shipping his entire string here unless the outlook for racing in Chicago should brighten. One of the largest crowds that has ever been at the Aqueduct track was present today. As was the case yesterday, favorites performed poorly. Only two, Leonard Joe Hayman and First Water, being returned winners. The last named is the crack colt for which Newton B?nnington recently refused an offer of 0,-000. It was First Waters first appearance under colors and he performed up to advance expectations. Today was the banner day of the Pimlico meeting. About 5,000 people were on hand. They were attracted principally by the Pimlico Handicap, which was won by the Chelsea Stables Flinders, with Lilac second and Winchester third. Secretary Riggs is jubilant at the outccmc of the first four days cf racing. It is the general opinion among the horsemen that Phil McGinniss will not shine as a starter. While hi3 work has been fairly satisfactory, still it is far below what could be termed excellent. The racing stable of Andrew Miller and Wd-liam B. Leeds was sold at auction today at Aqueduct by the Fasig-Tipton Company. Tin purpose of the sale was to dissolve their partnership. Major Daingerfield was sold to P. J. Dwyer for ,000, while Coy Maid, a three-year-old filly by Kingston, brought the top price cf ,000, C. A. Draper being the btryer,
