major Mcdowell to serve • — Master of Ashland Stud Steward at Reopening of Dade Park. 1 John S. Wallace and .Tullns Reeder Engaged as Ofilcials — Many Improvements Under Way at Plant. ♦ LEXINGTON. Ky., April 30.— Robert W. Hunter of Providence, Ky., who, together with James C. Ellis and Drury Smeathers, both of Owensboro, are the owners of the Dada Tark Racing Association, is here arranging preliminaries for the re-opening of Dade Park, near Hejiderson, for a race meeting of twenty days, beginning August 15 and closing September 7 — Labor Day. Mr. Ellis was here for the opening of the Kentucky Association meeting, but departed Saturday night for Dade Park. In the course of a conversation today, Mr. Hunter said that Major Thomas C. McDowell, master of the Ashland Stud, who served with him as a member of the State Racing Commission, and Thomas C. Bradley, gen* eral manager of the Lexington track, have consented to serve in the capacity of stewards at Dade Park. Both are proficient in the stand. The name of the third steward will be announced within a day or two. John S. Wallace has been engaged to fill the office of racing secretary. He also will be one of the handicappers and placing judges. Julius G. Reeder, assistant in the office of the racing secretary at Lexington. Churchill Downs. Latonia and Raceland, also has been engaged and will be the Dade Park representative for booking of horses for this meeting. The remainder of the officials will all be men who are well known in service on the Kentucky tracks. Mr. Ellis, who is president and general manager of the Dade Park Racing Association, is quite well known in racing circles as the owner of a string of horses trained by Eon Bsllew. Messrs. Ellis, Hunter and Smeathers bought Dade Park when the affairs of the Green River Jockey Club were closed out, and they now are spending approximately 5,000 in improvements. "We will present our patrons a finished plant on opening day," said Mr. Hunter. "Everything that needs attention is receiving or will receive it We are looking to the comfort of our patrons, as well as to their amusement. "It is our intention to have a feature every day, and we will have a race for ,000 added at the ending of the meeting. "We are meeting with great encouragement and many of the most prominent horsemen racing in Kentucky have promised to ship their horses to Dade Park for this meeting. We predict a wonderful success for this meeting, as the horsemen and the public have great confidence in the owners and officials of the plant."
