DUSTABOUT PROVES BEST Accounts for Union Club Handicap, Feature at Maple Heights. » Changed Track Conditions Result in Numerous Withdrawals — Two Victories for Bonaventure Stable. • MAPLE HEIGHTS. Ohio, May 11.— W. S. Heatons Dustabout accounted for the Union Club Handicap, fifth and feature race at Maple Heights this afternoon. After going the first quarter the winner raced up into a contending position, passed Medina entering the stretch and retained a safe lead all during the final eighth. Wilmer the Wizard made a resolute bid during the run home and outstayed Sandy Hatch for second place. The latter was taken back off the pace, but failed to respond to hard riding when the real struggle began. The race was robbed of some of its interest when due to scratching the field was reduced to only four starters. A change in track conditions following Sundays rain was responsible for many declining to start in several of the contests, but nevertheless the racing was productive of i good sport. Surprises were in order and several of the winners returned handsome dividends. Overhead conditions were ideal, but topcoats were a necessity. The track, although slow, was drying out rapidly as the afternoon progressed. Closing up with a rush from the rear when straightened out in the stretch. Babe Garrett scored handily from Emma Hoagland and Florianka in the initial race, which marked her maiden victory. Emma Hoagland was a decided choice and appeared an easy winner midway of the stretch, but tired when challenged for the final test. A keen stretch struggle came with the running of the second. After disposing of Tight, Jockey Froggatte was forced to do j his best on Lubeck to earn the verdict by a narrow margin from Phyllis Gentry, with Carlos Enrique a bang-up third. The latter raced prominently at all stages. Remnant set a good pace to the stretch in the third race with Panorel in close pursuit. In the run home Panorel drew clear and retained a safe margin to the end. In ! the closing stages Black Wand outstayed the tiring Remnant. Bullet Proof and Despair failed to leave the barrier wita the others. Bright Idea forced the pace to the stretch in the fourth and in the final challenge outstayed the early leader. Red Seth. Dr. Huff came from the rear to be third and was going fastest of the leaders at the end. Zealot, after racing Uncle Velo into defeat, held his opponents safe all through the stretch in the sixth race. Belario was under pressure at the end to stall of Zanzibar for second place after the latter had closed a wide gap from a slow beginning. The Bonaventure Stable made it a double when Rachel Potter annexed the concluding dash rather handily after showing the way by a comfortable margin all the last half mile. Due to illness, general manager S. N. Hol-man was confined to his home today. His trouble is of a minor nature and he is expected to be around again in a day or two.
