ENERGY MAKES GOOD Parkview Stables Sprinter Captures Churchill Downs Feature. — * Defeats Recent Conqueror Reputation and Crack Band in Cas-tlewood Handicap. • UO/CWTILIM Ky.. May 19.— The Parkview Stables Energy, a disappointment in his two preceding starts here, turned the tables on Reputation, his recent conqueror, I and beat him decisively in the five and a. half furlongs handicap, carrying a purse of 11.700, and featuring this afternoons program at Churchill Downs. The International Stables Hotter Luck finished second and he was forcing Energy at his best pace to-: ward the end. Sanola landed in third place. I Reputation began quitting badly after he had covered a half mile. Up to that point he had shown fine speed and. after reaching the stretch, seemed a certain winner, but Energy, which had born taken back in the early stages and was following Reputation closest from the start, began forging to the front rapidly when straightened out in the stretch. In the last eighth the leaders were on even terms, but Reputation was through and when Moon-ey hit him with the whip he quit badly and made a swerve toward the inner rail. From there on Energy held sway, but Detter Luck made him do his best near the end. The time of the race, 1 :05%. was four-fifths of a second from the track record, made by Bringhurst. carrying 92 pounds. Ideal racing conditions governed today and it resulted in another banner attendance being on hand to view some excellent sport. In some f the races the limit number of starters engaged and the unwieldy fields raced closely grouped for most of the way. Success attended the form players in the first four contests. They met with their outstanding disappointment when Reputation failed. CLEMSTER II. OTTSTANDIXG CHOICE. Glenister IT. scored in the secondary feature, which brought to the post some fairly good ones to race a mile and seventy yards. Glenister II. was an outstanding choice, despite the staunch following of Gold Bug. The latter, after reing far out of it to the last quarter, succeeded in overhauling the others to land in third place, forcing out Eight Sixty at the end for second place. After the ra~e Glenister II. was worked out a mile and an eighth in 1:51%. The additional workout was as a preparation for his start in the mile and an eighth Ohio State Derby, which is to be run at Maple Heights. The International Stables Omnia, ridden by A. Mortenson, accounted for the sixth race, a dash of five-eighths, for two-year-olds. the first over this distance on Kentucky tracks this season. Kyrock and Socket In were second and third with the others closely aligned. It was a closely run race from the start with Estin the early leader. The latter was displaced in the stretch by Socket In and he in turn gave way to Omnia in the last seventy yards. Kyrock appeared as if he could beat the winner at a longer distance. He would have done so today had he had a stronger rider up. The concluding number brought the best finish of the afternoon when Fretwell. Wong Bok and Hoy finished inches apart, the trio driving to their limit and terminating the race almost exhausted. Heupel. on the winner, displayed good skill and the ground he saved during the entire trip enabled him to win. Hoy was probably the best, for he was going fastest at the end. He closed an immense gap. though racing wide, and would have taken the lead in another stride. AINTIE MAY WINS EASILY. Senator Allle W. Youngs Auntie May. a pronounced favorite, raced as if much the best of the fourteen others that made the contest In the third race and she won with much ease from Annie I-yle. with Geo. Groom Just lasting to outstay Rosa Greener for third place. The winner was away forwardly and Fool took her under restraint and kept her in hand behind Geo. Groom and John Q. Kelly until rounding the stretch turn, where he called on her and she responded gamely. Annie Lyle. after acting badly at the post, was away slowly and she had to race wide, but came with a good rush in the last eighth to take second place. Geo. Groom attracted the attention of J. II. Partridge, who claimed him for ,700. Annie Lyle. which r. presented Partridge, was claimed by V. Nugent at a cost of ,700. E. R. liradli ys Blue Pencil was best of the fifteen maiden youngsters that eng.i .1 in the ■•• orul ra e and lie won well hi hand from Accumulator, with Araby in third plan. Blue Pennl was in danger of being badly blocked at tht first turn, but Myers took a big charge and huMl..l him through a small opening and it gave him a good lead. The colt swered out at the stretch turn, but Continwd on tlxlt-cula pafe. ENERGY MAKES GOOD Continued from first page. coming again steadily he held Accumulator safe in the last eighth. The crowding that came at the first turn accounted for several being knocked out of it,. The opening race found Beautiful Addle much the best, for she won under a big handicap of being away slowly and ridden wide for the entire way. She came like the wind through the last eighth and overhauled the fast finishing Beulah Stone, which had been a formidable factor from the start. Beulah Stone was grouped with others in the field. She beat San Vicenti handily for second place. • _
