McMlLLEN COLORS TO FORE Deputy Scores Their First Win at Maple Heights. • Long*s Riding a Feature — Pilots Tippity Witchet, Devn Girl and Seqoel to Victory. I CLEVELAND. Ohio. May 19.— J. H. Mc-Millens Thistledown Stable registered its first success of the present meeting at Maple Heights this afternoon when Deputy accounted for the Great I-akes Handicap, the fifth and principal attraction. Go Foin and Sandy Hatch divided the remainder of the purse. Last One showed the way in the early stages, with Deputy in closest attendance. Approaching the stretch turn the McMillen color bearer drew into a clear lead, but was forced to stand a hard drive in the last twenty yards to stall off Go Foin. The latter moved up fast When straightened out in the stretch and was gradually wearing the winner down. Sandy Hatch outstayed Ranock for third place. Last One quit almost to a walk near the end. El Cld set the pace to the stretch in the sixth, with Devil Girl close up. When straightened out in the stretch Devil Girl took command and held sway to the end. Head Line managed to last long enough to save second place from Piedra, The riding of jockey Long was one of the afternoons featurea He piloted three winners, Tippity Witchet, Devil Girl and the triple was completed when he rode Sequel, winner of the seventh. C. T. Wurthington uncovered a good two-year-old in the initial race in Tom Scott, which led his opponents by a comfortable margin at all stages of the opening race. Closing gamely on the outside during the stretch run George Degaw outstayed Dicks Seth for second place. Glory carried Dextrose along at a smart j pace to the stretch in the second race. During the final eighth. Dextrose shook off Glory but was forced to do her best in the I closing stages to stall off the fast closing Sweetum.
