SECURE JOSEPH McLENNAN Well-Known Official Will Serve as Racing Secretary at Hawthorne This Year. Judge Joseph A. Murphy, general manager of the Chicago Business Mens Racing Association, closed a contract with Joseph Mc-I.»ennan to be racing secretary for the Hawthorne meeting of 1925 and presiding placing judge and associate handicapper. It is not very often that a racing association waits a year for the services of an official but the Chicago Business Mens Racing Association is unalterably committed to a policy of placing in official positions, only men of the widest exj erience and not those chosen through political or other preferment. Last year Mr. McLennan was under contract to the Canadian Racing Associations and other racing secretaries of reputation were not available so judge Murphy made the book himself, going back to the early days in his career, such days when Harlem, Hawthorne and other renowned racing associations were in existence. Wherever Mr. Mclennans contract carries him this year, it will not in any way conflict with the Hawthorne racing dates but in his absence, his duties will be taken care of by his assistants, John Carey and Francis Dunne. Judg C. C Reilly will continue to be the official handicapper of the association, but Mr. Joseph Mclennan will be associated with him in the work and judg1 Joseph A. Murphy will sit in the advisory capacity in the stake events. The first weeks book will be distributed immediately after the closing of the stakes on Saturday. June 6 and the new secretary will assume his new duties at Hawthorne and owners may consult him in regard to the stakt s and registrations. Th*» full list of officials are as follows: Joseph A.
