Mr. Primrcs" stated that a modified system of mutuel betting will be the method of wagering at the Illinois track. Mr. Primrose felt elated over the numerous applications for stable space he received. The I.atonia stake book, containing the names of all the eligibles to the different stakes to be run during the meeting, was distributed to owners here today. The cover Is illustrated with a picture of Chiihowee, winner of the Latonia Derby. Jockey H. Meyer, who has been riding with an injured foot since the Lexington meeting, was put under an x-ray examination and was found to have sustained a broken toe. The doctors encased it in a splint and ordered Meyer to suspend riding for a time. He was to have gone to New York to ride Brawn Sugar in the Withers, but will be unable to do so. Mr. Bradley is at present negotiating with U Fator to ride the colt and falling to secure him will send W. Fronk Kast to ride. John F. Schorr intends to relinquish the training of E P.. McLeans horses and will take charge of the horses owned by Jefferson Livingston. The latter is dickering with owner 1 . W. Scott for Son of John. The Livingston horses will be shipped East at the close of the racing here. J. M. Murphy, general manager of the Fair Grounds, and II. S. Eddy, Jr., general manager of the Jefferson Park track, departed yesterday for New Orleans. Placide Frig-gerio also left for the Crescent City. Mose Shapoff. trainer of the G. F. Croissant stable, has secured the contract on jockey W. Smith, who rode for him Saturday at Maple Heights. Smith was given a jockey license Monday.
