SON OF MAN 0 WAR 1 ■ ■ American Flag Easy Winner of Feature at Belmont Park. ♦ Adverse Weather Hurts Attendance — Muddy Track Results in Numerous Withdrawals. ♦— — NRW YORK, K T., May 25— American Flag, the three-year-old son of Man o War | and Lady Comfey. was an easy winner of | the feature event of the afternoon, the Bay-| side, at one mile. At the end of the journey. I jockey A. Johnson, who had the mount on j the Glen Riddle Farm starter, had him under j stout restraint and was easing him up. A. ; C. Bostwicks Scorcher was the one to finish . second, while third portion fell to James But-j lers Bright Steel. G. D. Wideners Felix I was a distant fourth. The winner was the choice of the crowd land after indulging Bright Steel and Scorcher in the lead, went to the front when ready and drew out to win with speed in re- j serve. The pace for the first quarter of a I mile was cut out by Bright Steel, but the latter gave way to Scorcher when Huggin* found an opening on the inner rail and sent ,1113 mount to the front In the meantime Johnson was rating American Flag along under a snug hold on the outside in the bet- ■ ter going. Rounding the far turn Coltiletti I went to the whip on Bright Steel in an effort ; to improve his position but to no avail. When ready, American Flag dashed to th* I front and cantered out the remaining dis-] tance. Scorcher made a game effort to hang : on but was not good enough, but readily held j Bright Steel safe. The event carried an added value of ,500 and netted the Glen Riddle coffers ,350. i A muddy track and dismal overhead con- Iditions had a restraining effect on the crowd. which was of small proportions. The card, which was a bulky one, was scratched down to small fields. WIXNEIt FOB SAXFORD FAItM. Tusculum, ridden by Earl Sande and rac-• ing for the Sanford Stud Farm Stable, showed a decided liking for the mud and proved an easy winner of the first race of the afternoon, which brought together a field | of ten maidens. James Butlers Jibe finished second, while J. F. Richardsons Bruns was third. The winner left with the leaders and was the one to force the pace, which was cut out by Jibe and Wild Bill. Rounding the far turn Sande sent the imported three-year-old into the lead and he quickly drew away. From then on the result was not in doubt. Jibe, after showing early speed, tired after disposing of Wild Bill and was ridden out to stall off the rush of Brans. The latter was outrun the first part, but finished going fast. First Mate, the Man o War representative in the race, finished with a belated rash on the outside and was a rapid going I fourth. Thirteen juveniles paraded for the running of the Woodmere, which was a dash of four | and a half furlongs through the straight and the winner resulted in Mrs. J. Sciacca-lugas Bombshell, ridden by jockey I.. Mc-Atee. in a drive from Stephen Petitts Happy Hirthday, while A. B. Gordons Pecora was third. The winner followed the pace closely and answered gamely to McAtees call and wore down Happy Birthday. The latter be- i gan to tire and just lasted to stall off the rash of Pecora, which finished fast on the inner rail. SPEEDY ROTAI.ITE SCORES. Royalite. the swift-running daughter of I.ucullite and Royal Knsign, racing for the Rancoeas Stable, was an easy winner of the | Domino, which was offered as the secondary j feature of the afternoon. Ridden by I.. Fator, she showed the way at tne end of the three-quarters journey to Cary Winfreys | Tester, while W. S. Kilmers Sunsard was third. Highbinder and Price, the other starters, at no stage cut any figure In the running. The field left the barrier in splendid alignment and it was Royalite that ■showed the way. Sunsard went along after her and the pair, closely lapped, drew aw.iy from the others, which Tester was leading. Bounding the stretch turn Fator shook up his mount and Royalite bounoed away from Sunsard. The latter began to show signs of weariness from the pace through the , mud and dropped back and at the end had nothing left to stand off the rush of Tester. | The latter did not threaten Royalite, which had .-i-ced in reserve. A poor band of platers engaged in the fifth, a mile and a sixteenth race and the winner resulted in Mrs. Iugene Waylands .limson ridden by jockey K. llarnes, second Biasa going to I.. Clarks North Urease, while C. R, Fleisi hrnanns Satellite was third. The winner dominated the running from the start and after disposing of Satellite was in hand at the end. Satellite swerved at the start but was quickly rushed into contention, but at the end tired from early efforts and succumbed to the rush of North Breeze at 1 the end.
