Manna Wins Epsom Derby ■ ■ — LONDON. England, May 27. — H. E. Morriss Manna, son of Phalaris and Waffles, won the 142nd renewal of the Epsom Derby at Epsom Downs this afternoon. Heavy rains left the course sodden and the going was a decided handicap to some of the .•tarters. The Aga Khans Zionist was second and A. K. Macombers The Sirdar third. Twenty-seven started in the race. Lord Astors Cross Bow was the post time favorite at 9 to -. Manna, ridden by Steve Donoghue, was at 9 to 1 and The Sirdar, the only colt of American ownership in the race, was considered a forlorn hope at 50 to 1. In spite of the bad weather the usual enormous crowd was on hand. King George V. and Queen Mary were among the spectators. The race developed little serious opposition for the Two Thousand Guineas winner. Manna crossed the finish an easy winner by eight lengths and Zionist saved ■ nnd place by two lengths from The Sirdar. War .Minister, at 50 to 1, finished fourth ahead of Solario, which was at 10 to 1. This w;is Steve Donoghues sixth Derby victory. The veteran jockey scored his first victory in the race in 1915 on Sol Joels Iommern. That success was followed by ■ triumph on Mr. Fairics Gay Crusader in 1917. on J. B. Joels Humorist in 1921, on Lord Woolavingtons Captain Cuttle in 1922 an, I on Ben Irishs Papyrus in 1923. arslake rode Zionist and Esting had the mount on The Sirdar.
