CHURCHILL DOWNS Latest Turf Notes From Famous Kentucky Track LOUISVILLE. Ky„ May 30. The Churchill Downs meeting, which just terminated, has been remarkable in many respects. It established a record for patronage, the crowds daily since the opening being far more than on any former day In past seasons. The racing has been spectacular, but at times maired by rough riding. The meeting has done much to emphasize the popularity of Churchill Downs as a center for high-class racing. With the running of todays final race there began a general exodus of turfmen for Latonia. The meeting there begins next Tuesday for a period of twenty-nine days. The same record-breaking action that prevailed here is expected at the picturesque Milldale track. Usually Louisville is the barometer for Latonia. The Kentucky Jockey Club has made ambitious plans for Latonia and everybody in this section with a liking for racing will watch the proceedings at Latonia with unabated interest. Saturday night witnessed the departures of many prominent stables for the Latonia track. Included in the shipment was Captain Hal. regarded as the best three-year-old here in spite of his defeat in the Kentucky Derby and in the Grainger Memorial Handicap. King Nadi was another star three-year-old that was shipped today. Part of the Idle Hour Stock Farm Stable went and also the big band that races for G. F. Croissant. Sunday will witness the departure of a special train of fifteen cars of horses. There will be few deflections and most of the horses that have been raced here will be seen in action at Latonia. Some stables will be transferred to Aurora and the Ia Brae Stable, owned by H. H. Cotton, in charge of J. B. McKee. will be shipped to Empire City track, near Yonkers. N. Y. The La Brae stable has added the good colt Sandy Man to its string.
