Ky.. May 30.— C. B. Dalleye Deeming, ridden by J. McCoy, furnished a surprise when she accounted for the fifty-first running of the Kentucky Oaks, which carried a net value of ♦ iu.-.SO to the winner. Buckwheat Cake finished in second place and Little Visitor was third. Seven three-! year-old fillies started, with the Idle Hour Stock Farm Stables pair. Blue Warbler and Buckheat Cake, pronounced favorites. They were considered much the best and many expected that they would finish first and second. The disappointment was Blue Warbler. That filly, ridden by D. Hum. raced with Little Visitor for five-eighths, then was taken back and raced restrained for the next quarter, moved up slightly only to give way completely in the stretch. The winner, capably ridden ,was kept prominent during the early stages and when Little Visitor began to falter McCoy rode Deeming hard and wrested the lead and under hard urging she succeeding in beating home Buckwheat Cake. The latter lost considerable ground by racing wide for nearly the entire way. Little Visitor, though tiring fast, managed to outstay Primrose. The latter never figured extensively until the last eighth, where she wore down the others to save the stake. SECOND LARGEST CROWD. Churchill Downs attracted this afternoon one of the biggest crowds of the meeting, excepting Derby day, to witness the final afternoons racing of this spring and also the decision of the Kentucky Oaks and the Bashford Manor Stakes. Both fixtures promised royal contests for some of the best two-year-old and three-year-old fillies in this section were among those named to try for the rich prizes. Both races resulted dis-apnointinglv when the favorites were downed. Take a Chance was returned winner in the Bashford Manor Stakes over thirteen other juveniles that tried conclusions for the ,8G0 Ithat went to th winner Sanction finished in second place and Percentage landed in .third place, with Supporter, a stable companion to Sanction, fourth. The latter saved his starting and entrance fee. Take a Chance was lucky and favored by the outer post position that he had. It enabled him to be clear of interference from which most of the considered contenders suffered. He came fast during the stretch and wore down Sanction in the last seventy yards. The start in the race was a good one, but the jam came in the first sixteenth and it was some time before the field could untangle. Meantime Supjiorter and Sanction had moved into the lead, followed by Take a Chance and Percentage. The four leaders had it between them to the finish. As a contest the race did not prove anything, for few in the big field had opportunity to perform to their best. Rhinock, after ho met his interference, was not urged hard, as his chances looked hopeless. My Colonel was completely knocked out of. it and Blue Pencil and Blockhead were also extensive sufferers. HOMING I1IUD LAMED. Tho Incompetency of some of the rid-rs was sharply brought to notice In the third race in the case of W. Charles, who had the mount on Homing ltird. That filly had both tendons of left hind leg almost severed but the rider was unaware of it and, despite her falling completely out of it, he rode In r through the entire race. Make Ip was much the best in tho race and he won as his rider pleased, after he had indulged The Franciscan with the lea I for the first three-quarters. Off Spring, well backed, finished second with Sea Court in third place. Pans Star furnished the upset of Uie second rtLco, in wdiieh.ton maiden two-year-olds performed. Gaberdino was backed to the exclusion of the others, but he performed poorly, giving way completely in the last eighth after having been prominent to this point. Littlo Cook showed a good performance to race in second place, with Mil McGeo taking the shorter portion of the purse.
