IN THE SPOTLIGHT ♦ Glenister II., Makes Decisive Bid for Public Favor. « Leads Home Good Band of Racers in Latonias Feature Race — Run in Fast Time. i LATONTA. Ky., June 8.— R. Colstons Glenister II. made a decisive bid for a place in the three-year-old spotlight this afternoon when he beat home a good band of racers of all ages and equalled the track record of 1 :41% for the mile and seventy yards. Buck and Almadel, also three-year-olds, fin-inshed second and third, with Tangara fourth. Glenister II. a victory was well deserved. He held to his task in game style and fought it out stubbornly all during the stretch with Buck, which made a strenuous effort to wrest the lead from him. Glenister II., immediately after the start, moved into the lead followed by Tilka and Buck. They raced in this order for over half a mile when Tilka began tiring and Buck began pressing Glenister JX At the stretch turn It looked as If Glenister n. was ready to give way, but he surprised by holding on steadily. Almadel and Tangara, both well backed, were far back in the early stages, but they loomed up menacingly in the stretch, but they were held safe by the leading pair. CONSIDERABLE ROCGn RIDING. Threatening weather which fo ra time appeared would develop a heavy storm kept the attendance down considerably, but considering the off-day offering and possible storm a generous patronage was on hand. The racing would have been spectacular but for the rough riding again in evidence. The second race was surfeited with it, W. W. Taylor being an offender. In the third race jockey G. Noel was a victim and he was brushed off Midnight Rose and received a heavy fall. Jockey Bludau was held to blame for the roughing and was suspended for fifteen days by the stewards. Bludau also was an offender at Churchill Downs, but on that occasion was let off with a warning. The second race brought a dozen maiden fillies to the barrier and It resulted in a victory for Florence Mills from Queen Clara, with Spices in third place. The winner had to be much the best for she suffered considerably as a result of rough riding by W. W. Taylor on Queen Clara. The latter was the leader when Florence Mills came along with her rush, but it was checked by the interference Taylor subjected her to. She came again however, in the last sixteenth and drew out steadily in the stretch. The third race resulted in a hard fall for jockey Noel on Midnight Rose. The filly was caught in a jam going to the first turn and the rider was brushed oft Delectable was the winner, coming away in the stretch to win handily from Dutch Girl, with Black Crackle in third place. Black Grackle might have gotten second place, but for being interfered with in the stretch when Dutch Girl came out from the inner ralL CROSS VILLAGE AN T7PSET. The first race resulted in an upset when Cross Village, showing improved form, led for the entire way and beat home Childs Play handily, with Friend in third place. There were a dozen starters, with Childs Play a pronounced choice. The first two dominated for nearly the entire way, but Friends showing was better than the others. He was away badly and had to close an immense gap. He finished gamely and got up for third place in the last stride. Down Towns effort today was in contrast to his winning performance of Saturday. Pete Coyne was unlucky to suffer the loss of the purse of the fourth race, which brought together a fairly good band of sprinters. His Pindar Peel was the victim here and his defeat was due to the poor ride he got from Mack Garner. Brunswick beat him home by a short head after having led for the entire distance and saved much ground throughout. Certain finished in third place. Brunswick, with an inner rail position and going in his best form, moved into the lead at once and, continuing gamely under urging, just lasted. Pindar Peel, though away well, was kept under hard restraint and was ridden wide. Certain was inurh the lust of the others and raced welL The time of the race, 1:11%. marked a fast performance.
