June 17. — II. E. Morriss Manna, winner of the Epsom Derby, was beaten by Sir John Rutherford*! Solario and Sparus in the Ascot Derby. Manna carried 130 lounds. the top weight, and was conceding , ten pounds to the others. Solario beat Sparus by a length and a half and the ; latter, in turn, was half a length in front of j Manna. The weather was cloudy and cool for the second day of the Royal Ascot meeting but an enormous crowd turned out in spite of this condition.
