ADDED STARTER TRIUMPHS ■ ♦ Friars Carse Easily Annexes Clover Stakes at Aqueduct * Swift-Running Daughter of Friar Rock Kinds Xo Trouble Asserting Her Supremacy Over Rivals. I NEW YORK. N. T., June 17.— Friars Carse. winner of the Keene Memorial at Belmont Park for Samuel D. Riddles Glen riiddle Farm Stable, was an easy winner of the Clover Stakes for fillies at Aqueduct today. This was the feature of an interesting card and hy her victory, this swift running daughter of Friar Hock, added just ,830 to her earnings. Friars Carse was not sent out in the overnight list, being added before I post time. That prevented some from coming to the course who would have been on hand for the chance to see her perform. ! There was a grateful drop in the temper- i attire and conditions were ideal for the sport. I and the result was a big mid-week attend- a nee. Ethereal. Hayal. Sox and Dictation were fillies that were withdrawn from the Clover Stakes but with the adding of Friars Carse It left seven to perform. On her showing in the Keene Memorial it was agreed that only an accident would bring defeat to the big daughter of Friar Rock and she justified that confidence. No time was lost at the barrier and John-: son almost at once went into the command 1 with Friars Carse. Once clear of the company he had only to sit still and permit the! filly to go along In her own fashion. She was still drawing away from the others :as she swept by the stand and her margin of victory was five lengths. But it was a rare battle that followed for second place between K. E. Hitts First Aid and the Good-stone Stables Silver J.ane. These two had it out to the last stride with First Aid just dropping her nose down in front. Four lengths back of this battling pair Edith Cavell. a daughter of Man o War. that races for Walter M. Jeffords, beat Walter J. Salmons Martha Washington half a length. Then came Harry Payne Whitneys Ilegira and Silver Finn was rather a distant last. It was a nice band of maiden jumpers thai, went to the post for the short course steeplechase. There were three of the ten that went amiss in the running, but the pace was good throughout and it furnished a thrilling spectacle when J. R. Macombers Golden Cup in a hard drive just beat home Thomas Hitchcocks Ravel with W. A. Reads Mac-Carthy More outlasting Walter M. Jeffords .Miss Smith for third. The mishaps began at the fourth jump where Eaglet made a bad landing and P. Brady was unseated. Next it was Broad Continued on sixteenth page. The third came when Sire De Bessan went down at the thirteenth jump with Barrett Haynes. Ravel was the one to cut out most of the pace and in the early stages Bashdon of the. Macomber pair went after him, with Golden • •up not far away. Kaglet. until he lost Brady, was right with the pace .and going exceedingly well and the others were in close order with the exception of Oyster Bed which quickly dropped out of the contention and ran an unaccountably dull race. it was a claiming dash of six-and-a-half rariongs that was the opening offering, and A. C. Bostwicks Dream Maker, capably ridden by Sarnie, was home winner over K. K. llitts Master Crump, while W. J. l: Ihs Zero Hour saved third from Lady Audrey. Early in the action Sande rushed Dream Maker around the leadeis to take command, and one., clear of the others he rated his mount along, saving ground all the wav ami at tlie end he was still a length and a half to the good. Master Crump inc. .1 forwar.llv throughout, and readily outstayed the others when he was two lengths before Zero Hour, another that had been in the front division for most of the way. It was a big field of cheap ones that met in the mile of the third race and F. M. Kellys Tufter proved best when he led Ike Flamingo Farm Stables loor Sport with A. Mounccs Miss Washington beating High Commander for the short i nd of the purse. From a good start Miss Washington was first to show out of the company, but she so. n gave way to Poor Sport and at the same time Tufter raced alongside the Flaming starter. High OsBSBnaSjder was outside the lenders and going well, but his running position cost him ground.
