June IT— Although the fifth rao.- on todays program was the afternoons feature, the best field of the day went to the post in the fourth race. This contest was won l y L. T. Coopers Corinth under a vigorous ride by jockey Xoo. Hourmore, from the stable of S. Most, was second with F. J. Boyles Strut Miss Lizzie taking third place from the heayily backed Pustabout. YVilmer the Wizard, the only other starter. was beaten off. They were at the post four minutes as Corinth acted badly and refused to line up and when the start came he dwelt, but immediately chased after his opponents anil gained steadily in the run down the back stretch. When the half mile post was reached Hourmore and Strut Miss Lizzie were racing in front on even terms with Dustabout, with Corinth a close follower. At the turn into the stretch Noe took Corinth to the outside and it was a real battle for supremacy all through the final eighth, but Corinth was best and got up in the last twenty yards to win drawing away. Hourmore. favored by his light weight, held on with determination but was not good enough to stall off the rush of the winner. Dustabout proved a disappointment as he was played with confidence by the regulars, but he could never improve his position and was tiring near the end. FIVE I.EXGTHS MARGIN. Mabel C . was victorious in the Hawthorne Claiming Handicap with its purse of ,200. It was over the three-quarters route and the winner displayed keen speed from the start. Senor wa-s second and Scratch third. When the start came Mabel C. quickly went to the front closely followc-d by Marionette and Senor and they raced in this order for a quarter. Marionette then b-gan to tire and Senor moved into second position. At the stretch turn the ultimate winner began to draw away and at the end there was five lengths separating her and Senor. while the latter was far in advance of the others Scratch came through on the inside at the stretch turn and took third place from Chem-lserie by a length and a half. Marionette quit badly and was next to last. It had rained hard again last night and this on top of the heavy track of yesterday made the going very hard and the mud runners were in their glory. The weather was hot but a breeze which blew into the stand made things comfortable for the patrons, who wt re out in goodly numbers. R. ];. Clark was best in the third, he be-j tng crowded back to next to last at the far j turn, but came again gamely through the stretch and, finishing in the middle of the track, was going away at tin- end. Squire JliM;i«liTs was easily second, lie saved much ground entering the home stretch and got to the front, but was unable to sall off the winner. Whirlwind, the favorite, fin- ished third after being very fractious at the barrier and delaying the start for many minutes. TWO FOR ItKACOM MANOR STABLE.
