• ■ APOLOGY BY SMALL MARGIN Accounts for Principal Offering at Huntington — Another Close Finish in the Sixth Race. HUNTINGTON, W. Va., April 10.— K. EL Sterretts Apology accounted for the seventh and feature race of the half holiday card at the Fair Grounds this afternoon, when she outstayed E. E. Majors Slow* Time by a narrow margin after a hard stretch fight. The other Major representative, Torcher, was a creditable third after racing close up for most of the race. Much the largest crowd of the meeting witnessed this afternoons sport and the races were conducted over a rapidly drying out track. Favorable weather prevailed, but rain again threatened at the close of the day. Showing fine speed in the stretch. Soanso graduated from the maiden ranks when he got up in time to outstay Vagrant Ditty hjr a narrow margin in the opening race. General Seth was third and racing well in linearly stages. Cassius proved to be easily best in the following race and was never threatened. Satana came from the rear and beat Hindoi-stan for second place after a good effort in the last sixteenth. Making his debut at this meeting. Padlock made a runaway affair of the third race. Potto and Vodka divided the remainder of the purse. Helen Major, from which much was expected, failed to cut much figure in the running. Another first time starter, Harry B., accounted for the fourth dash by a comfortable margin after racing behind the pacemakers. Miriam Wood and Mary G. to the stretch. Futen. finishing with a ruj.h, headed Miriam Wood, the early leader, an 1 beat her home for second place in the last few strides. Another recent, arrival. Guy Clayton, accounted for the fifth race. He raced close behind Wine Jug, the pacemaker, from the start and when straightened out in the stretch drew away easily. Wine Jug was tiring rapidly and barely lasted to save the place from the fast finishing Romping I.ad. One of the best finishes of the meeting resulted in the sixth race, in which the three placed horses finished closely bunched. Fame, a contender throughout, was hard pressed 1 near the end to stall off San Hedron, which I beat Kunleg in the final strides for second place. Jockey C. E. Allen was the leading jockey for the first six days of the meeting in the matter of earnings, taking down r,.. He piloted twelve winners, but D. Smith had thirteen to his credit, winning the most races.
