CROWDED AT AURORA More Horses Than Accommoda ¬ tions at Exposition Park Much Interest and Enthusiasm EnthusiasmDisplayed Displayed in Meeting MeetingOpening Opening Thursday AURORA 111 May 17 If enthusiasm and quanity of horses count for anything the spring meeting of the Exposition Park Jockey Club at Aurora is bound to the best ever held there More horses than can be accommodated are now on the grounds and some are rtabled as far as two miles away from the track in farmers barns while it is thought that the erecting of tents will event ¬ ually have to be resorted to toWhen When the bugle sounds for the first race on opening day May 20 there will be close to 1000 horses on or near the grounds Not all the stables are at the track yet as many of them will come from Louisville To date there have been nine cars from Lexington and Louisville with more to come six from Pimlico and Havre de Grace while Tijuana sent six more cars The Ohio circuit sent its quota when four cars came in from Akron and Maple Heights and five more from Columbus Just to make it a sectional battle ground the southern courses at New Orleans Mobile and Florida points sent four cars and another came in from Jamaica If stable facilities were to be had there is no doubt that at least 1500 horses would be on the scene Only those owners who made applica ¬ tion months ago are being taken care of General manager Trimble has been swamped with applications for stall room but not hav ¬ ing the stables was forced to turn them down downPLEXTT PLEXTT JUVENILE MATERIAL MATERIALWhile While quantity is predominant the class of horses to be seen in action this year is far above any other meeting held at the beautiful course along the Fox River There are at least 200 twoyearolds among those stabled at the course and this should make for good juvenile racing There will be at least one race of this kind every day The track proper lias been given much work during the past few months and as a result of the installation of a new drainage system there should not be any reoccurance of the trouble of former meetings when it took days to have fast track racing after a rainfall rainfallThe The Chicago Handicap will be the first of the Saturday handicaps to be run during the meeting This race is to be run Satur ¬ day May 22 and will have 2000 added Xominations close next Thursday The Mem ¬ orial Day Handicap with its 3500 added is bound to see a fine field for its first running Nominations for this event close Tuesdav May 25 25Among Among the improvements made since the last meeting was the building of eightysix tworoom kitchenette houses with all the conveniences of a modern hotel There will l e maid service bell boys to take care of the wants of its patrons while each apart ¬ ment is fully furnished with all modern conveniences such as electric ice boxes tele ¬ phones shower baths etc These quarters have made an instant hit with the visiting horsemen as they do not have to walk far from the track or stables The massive swimming pool is also an added attraction for those living in the new quarters as the pool is but i few feet away away1IKTTKR 1IKTTKR TRANSPORTATION TRANSPORTATIONTransportation Transportation facilities have been greatly increase since the Aurora Elgin and Chi ¬ cago electric line will put into effect bus service direct from their cars to the gate This is an addition to the special trains run daily over the Burlington road The same high class service will be afforded by that line as in the past the trains unloading and loading at the end of the stands standsGeneral General Manager Trimble states that all of 5000 visitors were on hand Sunday to get a glimpse of the horses There was a constant Bt ream of the lovers of the thoroughbred from eiuht oclock in the morning until night fall fallJ J G McDonell who arrived from Akron Vith five head of horses reported the first casualty of the meeting His Claro de Luna which had been turned out for some time Hliipped in bad condition and as a result died of pneumonia after reaching here
