BOOT TO BOOT VICTOR Bradley Racer an Overwhelming Favorite for Mapleton Purse Lucky Mistake Suffers Fractured FracturedJaw Jaw on Way to Post But Wins WinsAfter After Hard Drive LOUISVILLE Ky May IS E R Brart leys Boot to Boot which has been termed one of his reserves gave racegoers in this section an opportunity to judge his merits in the Mapleton Purse at a mile and a six ¬ teenth in which he met racers of his own ago as well as some of maturer years ire took them into camp handily winning as his rider pleased after having shown high speed from the start Devon and Bolton both threeyearolds finished second and third respectively the older horses giving up the struggle after reaching the stretch Boot to Boot was an overwhelming favorite and never left the result in doubt After his per ¬ formance there were many who voiced the belief that had he been started in the Derby the Bradley colors would have added third place to the score of first and second of Bub ¬ bling Over and Bagenbaggage respectively respectivelyShowery Showery weather prevailed during the early hours but culminated in a flood of sunshine for the later racing and also brought oppressive heat The attendance however was again of generous proportions and races spectacular and of a close order in most instances instancesTWO TWO SIXTY DISAPPOINTS DISAPPOINTSThe The downfall of Two Sixty was the out ¬ standing incident of the afternoon His de ¬ feat came in the fourth race by Lucky Mistake which is said to have suffered a fractured jaw through an injury while on the way to the post The colt raced remarkably well and wore down Two Sixty in the last six ¬ teenth He bled profusely during the run ¬ ning of the race and after the finish finishMount Mount Beacon a newcomer to these parts was the winnef of the opening race He displayed the most speed and T Murray rode him hard from the start Dry Moon just managed to land in second place beat ¬ ing Muldoon for the middle portion of the purse Muldoon would have been second in a few more strides There were fourteen starters in the race and they were compactly bunched for most of the trip tripThe The twoyearold filly race at four and a half furlongs brought a dozen to the post and Krick which has been performing con ¬ sistently was the winner She was lucky to avoid the jam which came at the first turn and disposing of Little Borah in the first eighth led thereafter to win well in hand Bourbon Girl hard urged maintained second place almost throughout Rosetta Stone fin ¬ ished in third place Candy Dot raced well here and would have been a prominent factor with a better beginning and had she been raced closer to the inner rail railLUCKY LUCKY VICTORY FOR BAKER BAKERPrecious Precious Lula carrying Bakers colors scored a lucky victory in the third race when she got up in the final stride to beat Xtra by a nose Waterflag finished in third place Xtra had shown the most speed from the start but Dubois made the mistake of riding her wide in the stretch enabling Precious Lula to come through next to the inner rail Had Xtra kept closer to the rail Precious Lula would have been unable to get through Waterflag also lost ground by being ridden wide and it lessened her win ¬ ning chance Eleven platers started at a mile and a sixteenth Mrs Moore one of the well backed ones refused to leave the post with the others othersTwo Two Sixty was the disappointing favorite in the fourth race He was opposed by five ordinary ones at the fiveeighths distance and he succumbed readily when Lucky Mis ¬ take challenged in the last eighth Mahatma finished in third place Lucky Mistake de ¬ layed the start to enable a change in bridles The one he carried to the post seemed to have a defective bit for the colt bled freely from the mouth It was found ho had a fractured jaw He raced in his best styla and wore down Two Sixty handily in the stretch and was drawing away near the end endThe The sixth race over the Chute mile brought to the post ten prospective Kentucky Gales candidates and resulted in an easy victory for J N Camdens Dark Phantom the third she has scored during the meeting Dark Phantom raced as if best and followed Teak closely during the early stages wearing the latter down just before reaching the stretch and outstaying Florence Mills in the hard drive that followed Parco showed good form to close a big gap and land in third place placeDark Dark Phantom on her showing this after ¬ noon looks a potential factor in the Ken ¬ tucky Oaks Parco will also be favored by the longer distance and should be a strong contender There were ten starters in the race but unless some in the wake of those that finished in the first three today improve materially they can be discounted as strong possibilities to figure in the Oaks results
