Dick Welles Selections SelectionsAt At Churchill Downs TALEQUA GOIiDEX LYNN ICE ICEFor For the opener a big field of platers will clash at six and a half furlongs There is nothing outstanding here and any mans horse has a chance to land the purse It will be a case of avoiding the usual crowding that takes place in fields of this size Trainer J S Ownbey a good man with a horse will probably saddle the winner in TALEQUA This gelding son of Flittergold has sarted twice at the Downs this spring finishing third and fifth respectively He has been working well and should pay well if he leads the others home GOLDEN LYNN has not been out since the Jefferson Park meeting but may be dangerous here providing she keeps out of trouble Appears a good play across the board ICE is another that may of this purse paying handsomely at the same time timeRUANE RUANE DR STREETT NORE ASTER ASTERThe The effort RUANE showed in his only start was a mighty good one when he finished sec ¬ ond to such a speedy individual as Irene Rohan On the strength of that race we are picking him to cop honors in the second tilt which calls for maiden juveniles to race over the four and a half furlongs route DR STREETT came near winning in his last out and had it not been that he was a litle short he surely would have done so He led all the way to the stretch only to tire and finish beaten off With the experience he gained from that race look for him to be closer up today A reported good one is NOBEASTER from the stable of J N Cam den This colt by North Star III has been burning up the track in his morning works and may Ixs good enough for the show end of the purse pursePAT PAT CALHOUK CHITTAGONG DUSTY There seems to be no stopping of PAT CALHOUN and as long as he is in a winning mood we are compelled to place him on top again His only two races this year found him home an easy winner on each occasion and if he can repel CHITTAGONG should score again The latter ran two fair races at Lexington and since arriving here has been turning in some fine moves He is reported as fit as hands can make him and there is no denying he will make the race interesting for PAT DUSTY MARY on the strength of her recent good trials stacks up as the one most likely to save the show j money Her last race was a good one and she can be expected to show some improve ¬ ment over that effort effortLOYAL LOYAL LEGION HULLO BOYS BELIHVE ME MEPicking Picking the probable winner of the fourth is no easy task A large band of platers is scheduled to hook up over the sprinting distance of six and a half furlongs and most any of them are apt to lead the way home On past performances LOYAL LEGION rates the best In his last out he was away the first and increasing his advantage with every stride was home four lengths in ad ¬ vance of the others If he would give up the same effort today he should prove a repeater HULLO raced far below her true form in he i first start here this spring and is able to jclo much better At Tampa she proved most consistent winning her last two races A race back to her Florida form should find her well up at the finish Boys Believe Me has been passed out as a good thing and may last long enough to get the short end of the purse purseLEE LEE O COTNER KING NADI PRINCESS DOREEN DOREENIn In the Market Street Merchant Association Handicap to be run as the fifth the gallant PRINCESS DOREEN makes her first Ken ¬ tucky appearance of the year She is to carry top weight of 118 and while that is no burden for her we dont think she is quite good enough to beat this bunch LEE O COTNER is in rare form as evidenced by his two winning races in as many starts at this track and we are picking him to lead the Audley Farm Stables marehome as well as KING NADI The latter was beaten in his first appearance of the year by the Ti ¬ juana racer Sandy Man He was giving him twentythree pounds as the race was run and it was hardly a fair test of KING NADIS ability The effort should have done him more good than harm and we are ex ¬ pecting him to be the one to furnish LEE2 the most contention contentionSTARBECK STARBECK MALCOLM B JR BARCOLO BARCOLOIf If STARBECK would run the race he Is capable of he should prove the winner of the Castlewood Purse scheduled as the sixth His one race at Lexington was a fairly good effort but when seen under colors here failed miserably He was a pretty shifty sort of a racer last year and if workouts count for anything should be nearing that form again We think he is good enough at the present to beat this field MAL ¬ COLM B JR is the threat in the race and the one for STARBECK to beat He runs well over any kind of a track and with possibilities of a muddy track should it rain as predicted he will let the others know they are in a race BARCOLO is another one to be reckoned with should STARBECK fail This racer from the Brad ¬ ley barns is in good form at the present and will take a bad beating before giving up the struggle The others dont count for much with the exception of PRESIDENT a stablemate of Barcolo BarcoloSPANISH SPANISH LAY HUNTSMAN MARENGO MARENGOSPANISH SPANISH LAY looks like the class of those which meet in the concluding race on the card His last effort was quite an improve ¬ ment over his preceding starts and basing on that race think he will prove the best here today When racing at Miami he did nothing but win his races and if he is again in that form will be a hard one to beat HUNTSMAN turned in a good performance his last out when after being off none too well then clcsed an immense gap to land in fifth position Taking a line through that racev he should prove good enough to get the place today MARENGO has been a long time in winning a race but is said now to be in pretty good form If the report is correct he may at least get the show end One Best Bet PAT CALHOUN in Third Race
