Dick Welles Selections SelectionsAt At Aurora EL ASTRO SMOKY 1 AT FLOY LILLIE LILLIEThe The opening race on the half haliday card is given over to some cheap ones that are asked to race over the newly inaugurated Exposition Course Ve arc picking EL ASTRO to win this heat as he did his last time out He can sprint or go a distance and in either case likes to set his own pace This should work to his advantage should he be able to get off in motion for he will then be enabled to avoid the inevitable crowding resulting from the large field If he once gets out in front figure the race his SMOKY DAY turned in a race more like he is able to his last out and on the strength of that showing think he may be able to take down the place money here FLOY LILLIE should be the one to account for the small end of the purse if her last race was a true indica ¬ tion of her condition condition2TEW 2TEW MOOX ZfOKCROSS LEVOY The W M Cain racer XEW MOON comes from the Ohio circuit with quite a string of victories If he has retained that form he should not have much trouble in account 1 ing for the second number a threequarters dash under claiming conditions The main contender in the race should be NORCROSS a winner in his last start He made good on that occasion after seemingly being hope ¬ lessly beaten and it was a fine performance for him In his present good condition he will take plenty of beating before giving up the struggle The possible dark horse in the race is LEVOY which had been cam ¬ paigning at Bowie before being shipped here His best races afe usually seen over a holding course but he can also go along on a fast strip stripSANOLA SANOLA REI HEART MISS JENNIE JENNIEThe The Queen of Hawthorne an appellation tacked on SANOLA when she was winning with such regularity at the latter course a couple of years back may have to be changed to The Queen of Aurora should she con ¬ tinue in her same fine form To date she has been entered three times winning two races and just beaten a nose in the other Under the conditions of the race she is only asked to shoulder 114 pounds today and at the weights should score the easiest kind of a victory The one which figures to finish closest to the Queen is RED HEART He is not anywhere near the racer the latter is but seems to be the best of the others MISS JENNIE may do for the show if she would repeat her last effort when she lasted long enough to take down the third money moneyTKY TKY AGAIN FRANK GAILOR SAM IORCH IORCHThe The fourth race is over a new distance to be known as the Trimble Course which is LOO feet less than one mile and a quarter The gift horse TRY AGAIN seems good enough to knock down this purse His last race was a good one when he finished second to Mercutio and he has but to improve a little over that effort to score here FRANK GAIIXDR was a winner in his first start here but since then has not fared so well He has been close up in his other races but wasnot quite good enough On those races he should be the one to land in the place position We dont think SAM IXDRcH is good enough to win but he could grab off the show if he runs back to his last performance MONS MEG was a shifty sort of a racer at New Orleans last winter and if in trim may have something to say about the race raceCROSS CROSS BOW GEORGE BE MAR SMILING GUS GUSIn In the Exposition Colony Handicap which features the program the two time winner CROSS BOW looks much the bcst He ap ¬ parently is a better horse than rated as he showed in his last race He gets a catch of ten pounds in the weights from GEORGE DE MAR which carries the top impost The latter turned in a couple of good perform ¬ ances when first seen in action here but since then has done nothing to warrant his carry ¬ ing the top weight today If he runs back to his early races he may be able to take down the place money It looks like a tight fit for the show between SMILING GUS and THE SPA The former is reported in good condition at the present and on that account we give him the preference THE SPA has a win and a second to his credit here and can not be considered lightly lightlyJOHNNY JOHNNY JEWEL FAENZA FAST MAIL MAILJOHNNY JOHNNY JEWELL appears to be the logi ¬ cal play in the sixth event a claiming affair over the mile and seventy yards route He was just a little short of a winning race in both his trys here and those races should have done him much good We look for him to step out in front today and lead from the rise of the barrier to the finish FAENZA gave a good performance in her only start to finish out of the money beaten by two lengths If she has improved any over that effort we think she may do for the place today FAST MAIL showed plenty of speed in his last out and as a consequence was wasilf ilf If he hewere were consistent he would have to be given j consideration for the winners end of the purse but he cannot be relied upon to prove a repeater repeaterBROTHERLY BROTHERLY LOVE ROMPING LAD VAST PATRICK PATRICKThe The good night tilt is also over the new Trimble Course and we are picking BROTH ¬ ERLY LOVE to prove a repeater here He won his race in old time fashion last Thurs ¬ day and has but to put forth the same efforts today to enable him to canter home ahead of the others The Haughton Moran racer ROMPING LAD is gradually getting into winning form and looks the best of the others He has finished close up in all his races here but to date has been unable to score If he runs as he did in his last out he should not have any trouble in taking the place The veteran VAN PATRICK could land the short end of the purse should he elect to race as is his wont When in the mood this old fellow can beat platers of this kind One Best Bet SANOLA in Third Eace
