DOWNCAST REPEATER Takes Measure of Tom P and Norcross in Aurora Feature Gay Boy II Scores His Second SecondSuccess Success of Meeting Red in a aClosely Closely Contested Finish AURORA 111 June S Althougii he only graduated from the maiden ranks in his last appearance here the Old Hickory Stables 3 ovncast proved to be good enough to beat the best band of sprinters starting at Expo ¬ sition Park this afternoon when ho took the measure of Tom P and Norcross in the fifth race Downcast and Tom P raced closely lapped practically throughout and despite his bearing out when called upon for the final run the son of L pset earned the verdict by a head Norcross always held the others safe safeMost Most favorable conditions prevailed The weather could not have been improved upon The track was at its best and another largo crowd journeyed to the course to witness the sport Smoky Day and Income contested the lead ¬ ership closely until midway of the stretch in the third race During the final eighth Smoky Day drew clear and retained a length advantage to the end Income was a handy second Green Hills made a resolute bid in the stretch and finished going strongly in third position positionIX IX CAME FASHION FASHIONClosing Closing up with good courage on the out Bide of his opponents when straightened out fn the stretch Gay Boy II scored his second success here for W It Padgett when he annexed the opening dash in handy style JVlelvina showed in front momentarily mid ¬ way of the stretch tired when the real test Came but was best of the others Mcliitosh off in a tangle rushed into the lead in the first quarter but tired rapidly through the Jast eighth and just lasted to save third from the fast finishing Miss Aji AjiRed Red and St Nicholas provided a keen strugsle for supremacy through the last cighth of the serpnd race and lied proved the gamer in the final drive Pol Roger off slowly came from far back in the last quarter and outgamed Parnell Lad for third place Intake the early leader quit to a walk in the last eighth eighthJockey Jockey Welman escaped injury when un ¬ seated by Double T at the start of the first race Nivlag showed signs of lameness while going to post for the race raceAfter After racing in close pursuit of Pelion to tho last eighth Boomerang drew away a sixteenth out and held the fourth safe there ¬ after Kosman closed up with a rush next the inner rail and finishing strongly out ¬ lasted the tiring Pelion John Abrams color bearer had no excuses but tired tiredP P T Barnum was a forward contender until well into the stretch then tired Bar ¬ berry carrying the colors of his former owner Clyde Freeman was never a serious factor factorFIRST FIRST FOR SI BAXTER BAXTERNinon Ninon showed the way until reaching the stretch in the sixth dash with High Card following closely When an eighth out High Card forged to the front and eventually scored a handy victory the first of the inecting for Si Baxter Ninon was a handy second and Sally dOr held the others safe all during the last half mile Zucca ruined his chances by running out at the first turn turnOne One of the most interesting contests of the afternoon came with the running of the concluding dash As the field of eight got straightened out in the stretch they were BO closely bunched it appeared as if any br the lot might win with the exception of llildrod Shercr ShercrGus Gus li was showing In front with Stevens at his throat latch There was a general closing up of the rear horses and Polly Atwell shot out of thri bunch to eventually draw away to a handy victory Slanderer come strongly at the end and outgamed SUvens for second place
