DEEP THOUGHT SCORES Earns Well Merited Decision in the Aurora Handicap Usual Large Saturday Crowd in inAttendance Attendance Mud Eunners Eunnersin in Their Glory AURORA III June 12 H M Masons fiveyearold Deep Thought was returned winner of the Aurora Handicap which car ¬ ried an endowment of 2000 and was the principal attraction on the card at Exposition Park tli is afternoon Deep Thoughts victory was a hard earned one as this son of Trans ¬ vaal although showing splendid speed all the way was allowed to race extremely wide on all the turns and lost much ground as a result Quickly recovering though at each turn and racing to the front again quickly the winner gradually increased his lead and on reaching the stretch drew out decisively and finished going gamely though still racing very wide to win by a decisive margin Brazen and George De Mar coming from the rear in the last quarter engaged in a thrilling struggle for second place which was decided in the final strides when the former managed to outstay George De Mar narrowly The latter saved third by a com ¬ fortable margin Bolton after showing keen early speed to the stretch tired and fell back during the final drive Miss Jennie ran well here for the first half but began tiring and quit in the stretch stretchFAVORABLE FAVORABLE WEATHER WEATHERFavorable Favorable conditions prevailed and the sport was witnessed by the usually large Sat ¬ urday attendance liain which fell during the night kept the running strip in a heavy condition which did not interfere with the quality of the sport and provided the mud runners with an opportunity to show at their best bestThe The opener witnessed twelve starters dis ¬ patched in fine order over the new Exposi ¬ tion Course and provided a keen early struggle between Idle Thoughts and Invic tus Thp latter from the stable of R Z Jenkins turning up the winner drawing away in the stretch to win by a wide margin Idle Thoughts tired badly and dropped com ¬ pletely out of it in the stretch which al ¬ lowed Hob Roy to be up for second place 1arader showed a splendid effort here and after racing on the outside throughout came fast at the end to gain third place placeT T J Buckleys C T Worthington found the heavy going to his liking and scored handily in the following race Mighty quick to begin and hard ridden throughout set a fast pace to the stretch in this race closely followed by C T Worthington Then as the field straightened out for home the latter passed Mighty with little effort and held the race safe to the end The latter managed to save second place from the fast closing Gen Cadorna and The Abbot The latter two were shuffled back in the early stages but coining up on the outside in the stretch finished fast Gen Cadorna gaining third place by a narrow margin marginAT AT HOME IN THE GOIXG GOIXGThe The third was fashioned for twoyearolds at fiveeighths and witnessed the Golden State Stables Mayberry make a show of his opposition in defeating them all the way The winner quickly rushed into the lead in the first eighth and proceeded to draw away steadily thereafter winning well in hand by a ten lengths margin Jonteel raced well and took the measure of the others for sec ¬ ond place saving much ground throughout throughoutHaughtons Haughtons Morans Monday Morning accounted for the fourth race and secondary feature Displaying the most speed after going the first quarter mile the winner energetically ridden easily held Huon Pine safe in the stretch The latter attended the early pace closely showed a good per ¬ formance but raced wide in the stretch l ady in Gold was third after a very rough trip and saved ground in the final quarter mile Jockey C K Allen who had previously piloted Deep Thought to victory in the fifth again succeeded in a very clever man ¬ ner with Sagamook in the sixth making it a double for the day The winner began very slowly but rapidly reached the leaders in the first half mile and saving ground In the run home drew clear of the others in the final drive Sincere closed an im ¬ mense gap and finishing with a rush got up for second place placeO O It Shafers Gunsight accounted for the final dash after showing the way to his opposition throughout The winner faltered momentarily entering the stretch but hard urged again drew away into a good lead anil held Van Patrick safe at the end The latter came from far back and finished with a rush but barely outstayed Grass Tree for second placa
