TOKEN IN SPIRITED DRIVE Carries Off National Handicap After Gruelling Finish Biggest Crowd of Present Hamilton greeting greetingSees Sees Great Race Itain Falls to toMar Mar the Proceedings HAMILTON Ont June 12 The Green Briar Stable again furnished the winner of the National Handicap at the Hamilton Jockey Club when D S Mitchell saddled Token for that establishment and in a gruel ¬ ling drive from the top of the stretch to the end had the pleasure of seeing his charge carry off the honors The race had an added value of 55000 with the winner drawing down 4220 as his share of the spoils Edlsto from the Seagram Stable finished second and ran one of the best races of his career in view of the fact that he was shouldering the heaviest impost yet accorded this stout ¬ hearted son of Johren JohrenAfter After a few minutes delay at the post for which Edisto was chiefly to blame the field was sent on their way in excellent alignment and there was a rush for the first turn and Kdisto proved the 1etter sprinter and took command while ToVen and Nine Sixty were closely by and racing well in hand Edisto opened up a two lengths lead while all the others save fixola were in close formation and waiting for the final call There was a general closing up as the turn for home was reached the field racing in a close group into the stretch Edisto still hung to his lead but Token had succeeded in getting to within a half length and in the drive that followed from the eighth post to the end the latter proved the gamer and received the verdict by a nose while Edisto was six lengths in the fore of Nine Sixty with Pixola a head back of him himThe The biggest crowd of the present meeting turned out to witness the running of a well balanced card at the Hamilton Jockey Club course today and they were well repaid for their visit despite the fact that favorites again shared lightly in the winning column I IRain Rain which fell intermittently during the afternoon drove the crowd to shelter several times but failed to dampen the ardor of those sncculatively inclined inclinedSignola Signola successfully carried the colors of F Gillespie to an easy victory in the days opener a fiveeighths dash for juveniles Fol ¬ lowing the pace set by Ankle Boot to the top of the stretch Clavcr took to the outside of the leader entering the home stretch and after a brief brush went on to win by two lengths while Ankle Boot saved the place by a little better than a length from Sarmatic Kda C was installed a warm choice but her chances went glimmering when she was away so slowly that she was unable to get into contention
