Wideners Crack Gelding Is 5 to 1 Favorite for Derby. $ Odds on Two "Dark Horses," Night Mail and Point Breeze, Go Tumbling Down. ♦ Karl Sande is the most popular as well as most successful rider in this country. He is reckoned without an equal in his chosen profession and his uncanny skill in the saddle has earned for him a countless host of admirers, many of whom have never seen him with colors up. It is no wonder than when Sande praises a horse the public sets up and takes notice. Humors from Louis-ville are that Sande has such great faith in J. E. Widener s gelding Osmand that when he talks about the Derby, he talks about Osmand. The result has been that quite a splurge has been made on Osmand and a local "future book" is now quoting 5 to 1 on the Widener gelding. The latter has been the favorite since the publication of the Derby entries, never being better than 8 to 1. While the greatest play has been on Osmand. there has been some support for a number of otheis. limis success in the Louisiana Derby has resulted in a drop in price to 2 ». Kiev, the stablcmate of Osmand, is another quoted at that figure. Fred Jr.. which ran such a grand rac ■ to finish second to Hoo in the Lou siana Derby, is another that attracted considerable attention. His price is now 15 to 1. Though Valorous rules favorite of the H. P. Whitney eligibles, being quoted at 1- to 1. a recent flurry from the East on the colt Night Mail, one of the Whitney three-year-olds which has never started, sent his price tumbling from 200 to ML Point Breeze, a maiden off-spring of the mighty Man o War, owned by Walter M. Jeffords, who likewise has Scapa Flow as a Derby eligible, has caused many flut-terings within the last few days and there was quite a drop from 200 to 50 to 1 without any apparent reason whatever. Scapa Flow remains at 12 to 1, Justice F.. Sweepster and Rip Kap at 15 to 1. and little changes, if any. are reported on the remaining list of eligibles. which is here presented, revised to latest figures quoted: The complete list follows : Horse.
