4 _ « Sweeps Selections At Bowie One Best Bet — BIBDW00D — In the First Race. The Princeton Handicap, a six and a half furious affair for three-year-olds has attracted a good field in the Bowie feature for Wednesday. This contest has a value of ,400. and Sun Forward, which carried W. S. Kilmers colors to victory in the Albany Handicap at Saratoga last summer is the top weight of the race. Under his impost of 114 pounds, he will give four pounds to Pleasant Smiles and five to Contemplate, l oth winners at this meeting. Other good ones are Tip Top, Fore I,ark and Artilleryman. The continued rain has cut down the number of horses named for the various races, but some fairly good performers will be seen under silks. BIRDWOOD— ALGOL — OTURK. BIRDWOOD. which showed an excellent effort in his only start was a trifle short on that occasion and succumbed to the rush of Skavar in the closing strides. That contest was over a sloppy track and the Meridian juvenile proved that he is thoroughly at home in the going. A quick starter, he has drawn the inside post position and should stay in front throughout. ALGOL is a stout finisher and should be a strong contender. The McLean two-year-old was scratched the other day when the course was muddy and it is doubted if he can take the measure of BIRDWOOD under the existing conditions. OTURK raced evenly all the way in his maiden effort. LO G POINT— WILD ASTER— TILLIE. LONG POINT is picking up three pounds over his recent victory here and looks the best in spite of his impost of 122 pounds. The son of ballot is well suited to the going and appears able to lead WILD ASTER home. The latter could not match the speed of Myra M.. Monday, but handled his weight well and gets five pounds off from that race. This fellow has always favored a heavy track and should finish in the money. TILLIE, which closed with a rush in her race back of LONG POINT last Saturday, may be the one to surprise. This filly was a long time in graduating from the maiden ranks, but she is now at the top- of her form. GAFFER— SEA SAND— NEW HOPE. GAFFER, a son of that noted mud runner, Jim Gaffney, has been training well for the past few weeks and should race well at the first asking. He has not faced the barrier since the Fort Erie meeting last summer, but he ran some good races in the heavy going there and is given the call over this field of cheap ones. SEA SAND is strictly a mud runner and should be well up all the way over the six and a half furlong distance. This old son of Martinet cannot carry his speed much more than this distance, but he likes the track and appears fit and ready. NEW HOPE is dropping into cheaper company and should display marked improvement over her recent effort. INDIAN LIGHT— OURIEDA— FORETIME. INDIAN LIGHT was the victim of poor handling in her fourth to Red Spider Monday. Off well, she was taken into the deepest going and faltered in the final eighth. This filly has plenty of speed and with a good ride should step down in front. The English bred miss is not too heavily burdened under 107 pounds and the distance is right for her. OURIEDA ran several good races at the New Orleans tracks, but may want a longer distance. The daughter of Light Brigade is well suited in the going and can carry the weight. FORETIME show, d scant speed in his last race at Jefferson Park, but has worked well since his arrival here and may share in the money. CONTEMPLATE — SUN FORWARD-FORE LARK. CONTEMPLATE, winner of his last out over a sloppy track, is selected to lead home the probable favorite, SUN FORWARD, in the feature event. The son of Hire aux Larmes probably does not possess the class of the Sun Briar colt, but has had the benefit of more racing and will go to the post a thoroughly fit horse. The weight should not bother him and the horse that defeats him should take all of the money. SUN FORWARD worked five-eighths in 1 :07% Tuesday morning, but he was driving and it is doubted if he is ready for his best effort. FORE LARK has been displaying high speed in his trials and ran some fine races at New Orleans. He may be hard to keep out of the money. MERCEDES E.— GRAYLINGS LADY-GNOME SECOND. MERCEDES E. is well suited over the mile and seventy yards distance of the sixth number and a race to her best form should return her the winner. She has beaten better horses than she meets here and appears to be in well at 107 pounds. GRAYLINGS LADY ran some good races in heavy going over the Miami oval and the daughter of Gnome should do equally as well in the heavy going now prevalent at Bowie. GNOME SECOND ran a dull race the other day at this track, but it was his first race since the Fair Grounds meeting in February and the colt was probably short. He is almost certain to show marked improvement here. FIRST EDITION— TRAJANUS— HARLAN. FIRST EDITION proved her liking for the mud when she raced to a victory over Parmachenee Belle, Spugs and others Monday and she should score again here. She picks up but two pounds over that triumph and the distance is the same. Peternel will probably have the mount and he is one of the best boys riding here. TRAJANUS could not stay with Maxie last Saturday, but he was well up for the first mile and should be in improved condition with that contest behind him. HARLAN is rather inconsistent, but is dangerous on his best form and should be a strong contender all the way.
