Turf Prizes . f Nearly a million dollars in turf prizes emphasizes in no uncertain terms the ever growing importance of winter racing in New Orleans. There were 111 days of racing during the winter of 1926-1927, beginning on Thanksgiving Day. November 25, and ending April 2. The first meeting was held at Jefferson Park, lasting thirty-two days; the second at the Fair Grounds, of fifty-two days duration and the third and final at Jefferson Park came to an end after twenty-eight days of sport. The immense sum of 90,106 -was distributed in stakes and purses during these three meetings, the Fair Grounds contributing 38,040 and Jefferson Park 52,066. A total of 777 races were run and 264 favorites scored, the grand percentage of winning first choices being .34, a fine record, considering the length of the meetings, 111 days, and the many changes of track conditions. The Coventry Stable, with 1,900; Idle Hour Stock Farm Stable, with 0,900; Greentree Stable, with 1,350; Audley Farm Stable, with 3,985, and H. G.
