Atwater a threeyearold son of Atwell Royal Blood which races for the Hamilton Farms Stable The race was worth 3150 to the winner and the appren ¬ tice E Fewell had the mount Jefferson Liv ingtons McAuliffe raced into second place while P S P Randolphs Lanyard saved third place from H W Maxwells Salta SaltaFor For the final day of the meeting there was the usual large crowd on hand and the en ¬ tertainment that was furnished was excellent The track was at its best and though rain threatened all afternoon none fell to mar the occasion occasionEight Eight went to the post in the Garden City Claiming Stakes just half of those entered being withdrawn and before the race it was generally agreed that McAuliffe was a bit better than the others There was some de ¬ lay at the post for which McAuliffe was chiefly to blame but the field left in good order with the exception of Richard T Wilsons Faddy which propped as the web ¬ bing rose and was lengths back of the others Then Black Bart was snatched up in the first hundred yards when he ran into a bit of trouble troubleMcAuliffe McAuliffe began fast and Goodwin at once took the lead with him but Atwater was right after him and closely lapped the pair soon opening up a good lead on the others Salta was in third place just showing the way to Cross Word and the others were strung out Through the back stretch Mc ¬ Auliffe and Atwater raced along stride for stride closely lapped and on the turn out of the back stretch they were still fighting it out Then it was McAuliffe that gave way and Atwater drew away into a good lead leadINCREASES INCREASES LEAD LEADTurning Turning for home Atwater was well clear and lie continued to increase his lead until he had an advantage of six lengths at the end McAuliffe readily saved second place when he was two lengths before Lanyard one that had closed a big gap with excellent courage to race past Salta in the last six ¬ teenth teenthThe The Rancocas Stable this afternoon did not begin auspiciously when Celidon much the best of the sprinters in the opening three quarters dash was beaten by Happy Argo from the Kershaw Stable StableThe The start was a good one but Celidon was slow to be under way and having the Inside berth he was shuffled back until he was next to last in the big field before he was fairly in his stride Extreme was off running and yvith False Pride Sunsard and Happy Argo he was not waiting for Celidon Through the early racing Fator permitted Celidon to set ¬ tle into his stride but he was far out of it even when the stretch was reached though he had made up much ground groundHappy Happy Argo had disoosed of the others and an eighth out Fator was driving Celidon hard He was responding to the call gal ¬ lantly but was repeatedly blocked Literally forcing his way through Celidon got clear twenty yards from the finish but it was too late and Happy Argo was the winner by a nose Three lengths back of the first two came R T Wilsons Fantastic to save third place from False Pride With anything like equal racing luck Celidon would surely have been the winner winnerMowlee Mowlee atoned handsomely for the defeat of Celidon when he galloped off with the fiveeighths condition race for juveniles that was the second offering of the day The swift running son of Lucullite had none of the back luck that came to Celidon in the opening number and away fast he was soon clear of his field to gallop along in front all the way and be home the winner by five lengths lengthsMaurice Maurice was the first to give chase but he had no chance to catch the brown colt and he was through before the stretch was reached Golden Auburn bearing the silks of the Quincy Stable was right after Mau ¬ rice but it was Eddie Ahearn that moved into second on the collapse of the Bean juvenile Golden Auburn raced right along with Eddie Ahearn and the only contest in the race was for second place for Mowlee was just romping along in a good lead leadCOPIAPO COPIAPO SCORES SCORESOopiapo Oopiapo the outlander from South Amer ¬ ica and Uvo seasons back the champion of the Panama turf was winner by a comfort ¬ able margin in the threequarters mile Wil loughby Handicap The son of Amsterdam Como which laces under the silks of R Kspinosa a Panama sportsman is trained by John Loftus and in this particular race was ridden by Laverne Fator making it a doube for the Rancocas Stables first jockey jockeyIn In this James Butlers Charade was per ¬ mitted to take a long early lead and Jim Crow the Mrs Viau starter was second with Pest Time third while Copiapo was outrun slightly and in rather a dangerous position on the inside insideThere There was no change in this order until well into the stretch but Fator had brought Copiapo up and he was waiting for a chance to get through Once second he galloped past Charade to be winner by three lengths and the Butler filly was doing her best to save second place from Frank Browns Cloudland which finished with a belated rush and was gaining rapidly at the end endFewell Fewell was of little help to Post Time when the final drive was on while Jim Crow after being thoroughly beaten was crowded into the fence right at the finish finishThere There was bad luck for the Rancocas Sta ¬ ble when Grange was second instead of first in the threequarters mile dash for maidens that was yie
