V1AU FILLY FAILURE Florence Mills Again Disappoints in Auroras Feature Race Jack Alexander Takes Win Bollew Handicap With Dimple Dunkie Third Betty Elvira Victress AURORA 111 May 18 H C McConnells Jack Alexander ridden by jockey A Pen dergrass triumphed over the small band which made up the field in the Wm Bollew Handicap main attraction offered at Expo ¬ sition Park today O Viaus Florence Mills finished a halflength behind the winner in second place while Dimple Dunkie was five lengths back and tiring badly Devon was a distant fourth while Arabian and Iolvo still many more lengths further back com ¬ pleted the field fieldFlorence Florence Mills duplicated her last perfor ¬ mance and raced in the lead from soon after the start and approaching the turn into the home stretch drew away into a long lead and appeared an easy winner Dimple Dun ¬ kie raced close to the leader while Jack Alexander came next in order racing under restraint in third place The others were far back of the leaders and provided scant opposition as they were hopelessly outrun for the entire mile mileStraightened Straightened out in the stretch Florence Mills was still safely in advance of the others but was tiring gradually and began bearing out badly Jack Alexander moved past Dimple Dunkie and began to wear Florence Mills down steadily Inside the last eighth the challenger caught the tiring filly and having the most in resei ve passed her in the last seventy yards and gaining a half length lead maintained it and held her safe at the finish Florence Mills was expected to have little trouble winning and ruled a well backed choice and proved some ¬ what of a disappointment to her many ad ¬ mirers although Jack Alexander was the recipient of extensive support supportKAIIT KAIIT AND COLD COLDConditions Conditions for the sport were poor rain falling intermittently throughout the after ¬ noon accompanied by cold weather and the races were decided over a slow track trackBetty Betty Elvira racing for J Keller and backed almost to the exclusion of the five other starters in the sixth race made every post a winning one throughout the mile and seventy yards and won easily from Prince Tii Tii while Reveillon wound up in the third place placeIt It was Betty Elviras fourth successive victory and the filly gave another exhibition of her best form leading from start to fin ¬ ish and always holding Prince Tii Tii safe the latter providing her with the most op ¬ position positionJockey Jockey J Bollero who had the mount on the winner was astride his third winning mount of the afternopn carrying cff tha riding dayO honors of the day O L Fosters Adventuress piloted by jockey L Schaefer and carrying the bulk of the public support landed home a neck in advance of Seths Premium to take the purse in the introductory race Seths Pre ¬ mium proved the best for second place while third was the portion of the strong finishing Kendall which nosed out Rubinette in the final stride Seths Premium showed the most speed until well down the home stretch and saved ground throughout the entire dis ¬ tance Adventuress followed the leader in nearest pursuit and gaining gradually in the final threesixteenths challenged Seths Premium a few yards out and catching her outgamed her at the end to score by a small margin Rubinette was a forward factor to near the finish and only gave way in the final few yards to Kendall KendallThe The Derby Stables Billy Witt racing in his best form scampered home to a decisive victory in the second race and was also the favorite making it two in a row for the fol lowers of form Ball Gee raced to the place while Miss Rosedale landed third place placeWINS WINS IN A CANTEU CANTEUSilent Silent Lillian set the early pace briefly in the first quartermile then Ball Gee wrested the lead from her and was in the lead when the field was straightened out in the home stretch Supporter raced In third position during the first halfmile Nearing the last eighth Billy Witt charged up from the rear with a resolute challenge and passing the leaders quickly continued on to the finish and easily won in a canter Ball Gee held on well for second place while Supporter was dene in the stretch and Mhw Uosedae another to come from behind in the last quarter of a mile easily took third thirdThe The white and pucplo silks of Mrs G Ganignti were carried of the good band of youngsters which started in the third race an allowance affair at four and a half furlongs furlongsMaking Making his third start here Aromatic after a second and third in his previous starts finally made good and mada it three in a row for the favorites The winner was well backed and ruled favorite over the others Question Mark showed much speed in this race and led for the first throe and a half furlongs but was no match for the winner in the final stages and was forced to be content with second place Dresna Lee raced fairly well and wound up in third place placeAn An allowance affair for threeyearolds and over which was fourth on the card and over the threequarters route resulted in a surprise when Paula Shay ridden by jockey J Bollcro was returned the winner after a spectacular contest It was Bolleros second winning mount of the afternoon the young rider having previously ridden Billy Witt successfully in the second race Paula Shay defeated Rival Billy Bauglm and five other good sprinters landing home a length in advance of Rival after a hard stretch drive while the latter had a length and a half margin to spare for second place Billyi Baughn raced in third place most of the dis ¬ tance and was best of the remainder for that position
