IMPROVED RAILWAY SERVICE Representatives of Eastern Roads RoadsAgree Agree to Furnish More and andBetter Better Transportation NEW YORK N Y May 26 The im ¬ portance of racing to the railroads of the country was emphasized by president Joseph E Widener of the Westchester Racing Asso ¬ ciation at a conference in the offices of the organization 250 Park Avenue yesterday morning those in attendance including E D Ostrander of the Reading J T Crooker of the New York Central J W Galloway Baltimore Ohio S M Rankin and J Yocum respectively general manager and assistant manager of the Pennsylvania G L Doutillier and P H Woodward president and passenger agent respectively of the Long Island system N A Shaw of the New York New Haven Hartford D A Hanrahan of the local offices of the Penn ¬ sylvania and C W Robie vicepresident of the American Railway Express ExpressIt It was demonstrated that racing in all its branches brought vast sums to the common carriers and that interest in the great races of the turf is increasing yearly The run ¬ ning of special trains for such events as the Belmont Stakes the Preakness Stakes and Kentucky Derby during the spring was given as an illustration of the new demands that are being made for more and better serv ¬ ice on the part of those who believe the turf is one of the best of all outdoor sports sportsThe The representatives of the various roads promised to cooperate in the work of get ¬ ting the public to and from the scenes of the contests and a special service to include all of the East will be inaugurated as a re ¬ sult of the conference It is thought that the impulse given the transportation move ¬ ment will result in an augmented attendance at all meetings and a much bigger patronage on special days when races like the Belmont and Futurity stakes are being decided decidedAt At a luncheon tendered the party by the Westchester Racing Association at Belmont Park president LeBoutillier was asked to take the place of honor Before going to the table the many beauties of Belmont Park were seen and admired The plant was a revelation to those from a distance and gave the entire party some realization of the amount of money invested in Belmont Park in particular and in race tracks in general
