SHADOWDALE GAMELY Outlasts Jack Morgan and Ocean Current in Hard Drive Mazetta Makes Show of Oppo ¬ nents Double Success for W M Cain COLLIXSVILLE 111 May 31 Threatening weather following the severe storm of the previous night and a changed track that was responsible for the withdrawal of many of the better horses carded in the different races during the afternoon brought a cur ¬ tailment in attendance and also made for routine racing here today There was also a noticeable drop in speculative activities from the two preceding daya dayaShadowdale Shadowdale which in a preceding start registered a clever victory again added laurels to his credit when he accounted for the outstanding race on todays card and won in a hard drive from Jack Horgan with Ocean Current following closely in the wake of the pair pairThere There were only five starters in the race and they raced closely grouped from the start until in the last sixteenth where the leading trio drew out to battle it strongly and finish with Shadowdale in the van and Jack Horgan slightly in front of Ocean Cur ¬ rent rentIn In the secondary feature Mazetta made a show of her opponents and won in a big romp after having led for the entire three quarters Golden Piece hard urged suc ¬ ceeded in outstaying Fenman coupled with Greyface for second place Mazetta was a pronounced favorite and she never cave her supporters much con ¬ cern for she promptly moved into the lead and increased her advantage with every stride to win eased up and by as big a mar ¬ gin as her rider elected electedTWO TWO Itf A ROW ROWTV TV M Cain scored a double for the after ¬ noon and nearly duplicated the achievement of J M Respess on Monday in landing a triple His Arragosa was beaten by Belpre after Louisville and Nashville and Aviator had landed their respective purses pursesW W M Cain inaugurated the day au ¬ spiciously by accounting in succession for the opening pair of purses with Louisville and Nashville and Aviator respectively The former was in with some fairly good platers in the opener and he achieved a nose victory in lucky fashion over Spats The latter was probably much the best but he bolted at the stretch turn which cost him considerable ground and the victory Blue Granite one of the favorites finished in third place placeAviators Aviators victory came after a hard drive during the stretch in which he took the lead from Cleora The latter had displayed most speed from the outset and appeared able to maintain her advantage secured with the start She began tiring however in the last sixteenth and Aviator had little diffi ¬ culty moving to the front to win handily Cleora was considerable distance in advance of Lady Welcome which in turn beat Black Man but slightly for third place placeBelpre Belpre prevented W M Cain from duplicat ¬ ing J B Respess feat of scoring a triple such as he did yesterday The Cain repre ¬ sentative in the third race was Arragosa and he was a well backedfavorite but the best he could do was to land in second place Belpre winning easily and racing as if pounds the best Arragosa was forced in the stretch to give his best to stall off the others for second place Paysand another well backed one landed in third place placeJockey Jockey L Pichon who rode five winners Monday and three Saturday out of ten mounts is suffering with a twisted ankle received while astride Huntsman yesterday but he filled his engagements today Hal Price Headley has made reservation for ten horses which are expected Thursday in charge of Johnny Daniels
