At Washington Park ParkOne One Best Bet PRINCE OF WALES In the Fourth Race The Illinois Jockey Club which conducts its meeting at the Washington Park race course at Homewood 111 throws open its gates today for the summer season of twentysix days Prom all indications it should be a banner meeting for there are plenty of good horses already on the grounds and many more are yet to arrive It is feared there will be an overabundance of racing material but it can be accom I modated at the Lincoln Fields course just a few miles away and at Aurora Those horses which will have to be stabled at either of the last two mentioned tracks will have to be vanned to Washington Park on the days they are entered to race raceThis This should prove a better meeting than the inaugural last year in more ways than one Financial difficulties have been cleared up and the plant is fit and ready Like ¬ wise horsemen who were reluctant to ship here last year are now clamoring for stall space with the result that a much better grade of horses will be seen in action each day than was the case last year yearThe The opening day feature is the Washington Park Handicap over the threequarters mile distance and with a purse of 5000 added Such stars as Prince of Wales Noreaster Bulletin Sun Altos and Girl Scout are named to start as well as many of the slightly lesser class of sprinters The fea ¬ ture is surrounded by the Old Town Handi ¬ cap and the Promenade Purse either one of which would do credit to any racing card cardThe The prospects are for a fast track and according to track superintendent Billy Myer some new American records are apt to be established when the stars meet in competi ¬ tion tionBIG BIG SWEEP MISS ROSEDALE RED GRANGE GRANGEThe The opening race of the meeting is over the threequarters distance with some fast sprinters entered BIG SWEEP from the W E Applegate barn looms as the one to have the honor of winning the first race of the meeting His races this spring have all been of high order and he only has to race to his best style to cop this number MISS ROSEDALE was fairly consistent at Aurora and may be able to hang on long enough to earn the place money in this field RED GRANGE on best races gets the call for third FINLAND an eastern arrival merits consideration FORE STAR is fit and ready and may cause some trouble troubleHATS HATS UP GEO GROOM BROOMSTER BROOMSTERThe The second is another threequarters sprint with HATS UP a recent arrival from Kentucky given the preference He was in mighty good form while racing at Churchill Downs and if he has retained his best form will be a hard one to beat here GEO GROOM figures as the one HATS UP will have to down for he too is ready for his best but he may find his impost just a bit too much BROOMSTER is usually a fast starter and may give a good account of himself today is he can avoid the jamming right after the start BASHA and JOE JUNIOR both won more than their share of races at Aurora but appear to be out ¬ classed in this field fieldISOSTASY ISOSTASY POLITA DREANA LEE LEEA A crack field of twoyearolds is to race over the fiveeighths distance in the third named the Promenade Purse This figures to result in a close finish with ISOSTASY POLITA and DREANA LEE likely to prove the most formidable The former was win ¬ ner of two races at Churchill Downs his last start seeing him home five lengths in advance of his opponents and he must be given the call here POLITA has only started once when she was awarded the purse due to a disqualification She is rated as a topnotcher however and may prove a hard one to beat DREANA LEE on best races is selected for third BIRD WOOD rates close up and may prove a surprise surprisePRINCE PRINCE OF WALES SUN ALTOS NOREASTER NOREASTERNo No less than twentyone were named for the Washington Park Handicap and while there will be many scratches before post time there is bound to be a good field to contest for the feature PRINCE OP WALES is possibly the best handicap horse over the sprinting distance in training at the present time and his impost of 129 pounds should not prove too much of a burden for him He carried but two pounds less in winning the feature race at Fair mount Park last Saturday and that was over a slow track too SUN ALTOS was plainly the best horse racing at Aurora and while he receives eight pounds from the E B McLean racer we do not look for him to beat the latter NOREASTER gets in with light weight and his creditable showing be ¬ hind PRINCE OF WALES at Fairmount last Saturday gives him next consideration here H G Bedwell has a strong hand with CUD ¬ GELLER SENATOR NORRIS and BULLE ¬ TIN to carry his colors SANOLA and HOT TIME also rate well up upJ J FRED Av CUDGELLER MAGIG WAND WANDSome Some speedy ones are to race over the mile in the Old Town Handicap with J FRED A the top weight given the call He met and defeated some of the best in the East white racing over the Maryland courses and only has to race in his best form today to annex I this purse CUDGELLER if not a starter in the feature should carry his impost well and may be the one to give J FRED A the most contention MAGIC WAND another one that is also entered in the big race rates a good chance if started in this num ¬ ber FANNIE MAY locallyowned gets in with but a feather and if given a good ride is likely to cause some trouble for the others othersHOPELESS HOPELESS DIMPLE DUNKIE PAULA SHAY SHAYThe The sixth another test over the mile distance should see HOPELESS annexing another purse tor his owner He won his last start at Jefferson Park and in his only start at Churchill Downs beat a fast band He is right at the top of his form at the present and while there are some other good ones opposed to him he figures to score DIMPLE DUNKIE raced fairly well over the Aurora course and may be the one to chase HOPELESS home today PAULA SHAY could account for the short end of the purse if she put forth her best efforts I CHINK favors this track and may be good enough to win winSIX SIX SIXTY LADY BRAXTED STATLER STATLERThe The concluding event is over the mile and an eighth course with a good band of platers making the issue SIX SIXTY raced well over the Lexington course before being shipped here and a race to his best form should see him leading the others home in this exent LADY BRAXTED showed she was close to winning form in her only start at Aurora and may cause SIX SIXTY no little trouble STATLER is given the cail for third on the strength of his winning race his last time out at Aurora RED PENNANT will bear watching MAJOE is possibly the best of the others
