WEIGHT DECIDING FACTOR Lightly Burdened WhatU I Do Beldame Handicap Winner Joseph E Videner s Fairness Fails in Her Attempt to Concede Eternal Filly Seven ¬ teen Founds in Belmont Feature NEW YORK N Y May 31 Whatll I Do a fouryearolds daughter of Eternal Golden List which races for Mrs Katherine Elkins Hitt was the winner of the Beldame Handicap which was the best race on to ¬ days program at Belmont Park Whatll I Do nosed out Fairness from the J E Widener stable at the end of a thrilling drive while J S Cosdens Recreation was a distant third thirdThe The Beldame Handicap was a three quarters mile dash and was over the main course Whatll I Do was in receipt of weight from the other threeyearolds and Fairness was attempting to concede the fouryearold seventeen pounds poundsThe The field was well behaved at the post although Niagara Falls one that appeared outclassed caused some excitement when she unseated the apprentice Goodwin However she was caught by an assistant starter and Goodwin quickly remounted From a good start Kawa was the quickest to show and she set a fast pace while Fairness was lapped on her from tha start with Whatll I Do under steady restraint restraintSande Sande continued to force the pace with his mount and entering the stretch bore out slightly forcing Whatll I Do to go wide in search of racing room while Recreation slipped through on the inside Kawa in the meantime had enough of the fast early pace and was quitting badly Fairness drew away into a brief lead but Whatll I Do was gain ¬ ing in a gallant fashion The Hitt mare caught Fairness between the eighth and six ¬ teenth posts and in a dingdong finish proved the winner although the margin was a small one Recreation had no excuses and was an easy third over La Diva The latter did not display her usual speed and was outrun outrunDROP DROP IN ATTE1TDANCE ATTE1TDANCEThe The crowd showed a decided falling off from the Memorial Day attendance The overhead conditions were cloudy and topcoats were in demand to ward off the chilly wind that swept through the grounds The track was in splendid condition conditionHenrietta Henrietta Wildair the daughter of Wild air Damoris that races for the Rosedale Stable continued her winning ways when she was home in front in the first race of the day a claiming affair at four and a half furlongs over the Widener course It was her third victory in a row and she showed the way to C L Carrolls Our Adele while F J Bastones Violet B was third The winner was ridden by the apprentice P Goodwin and dominated the running throughout Our Adele disposed of Sam beau through the final eighth and although hard ridden could iot get to the winner while Violet B finished with a rush rushGold Gold Coin from the Sagamore Stable of Mrs Margaret Emerson Baker of Baltimore ridden by jockey Fields was winner of the Floral Park an allowance affair at one mile He showed the way to J S Cosdens Marylander while the Hamilton Farms Chlum was third
