RURIK AT DOUGLAS PARK LOUISVILLE. Ky.. April 2.— Jake Lowen-stein has just returned from Lexington, bringing with him the Kentucky Derby candidate Rurik, which wintered at Elmendorf Farm In the care of Pete Coyne. Rurik is a gray gelding by Stefan the Great — Quelle est Belle II. and was purchased from J. E. Widener by Mr. Lowenstein and L. M. New-gass of Chicago. The colt, which has been in training at the farm for some time, arrived here in splendid condition and is ready to enter upon his more intensive course of training for the Derby. Mr. Lowenstein also shipped to the local track from Lexington a number of horses belonging to F. M. Grabner which had been undergoing their training at the hands of John O. Whitlow. The number included the good handicap horse Chicago, Spanish Lay. Itenbarg, and a couple of two-year-olds. The latter included Al Sabath, chestnut colt, by Saad Mole — English Esther, and Windy City, brown colt, by Upset — Allivan. Chicago, a winner of quite a number of handicaps around Chicago last summer, must have wintered well for he never appeared to better advantage than when he was placed in his stall at Douglas Park.
