* At Bowie One Best Bet — CORPORAL — In the Fourth Race. f i J j j t i , ! i Todays program at the Bowie track calls for one allowance race and six claiming affairs. The allowance IX .3 has been named the Aspirant Purse. The race is restricted to three-year-oMs and it calls for a contest over the six and a half furlongs distance. Five of the six claiming races have large fields scheduled to race, four of the contests having twenty starters entered. The program is well divided, for four of the races call for contests over the sprinting distances and the rest of the card is turned over to horses which prefer the longer distances. FIRST RACE-SO SELECTIONS. All of the starters, with the exception of two, will be making their first start in the opening race and, for this reason, we will not try to select the winner. BE STILL— STITCHES— GIRASOL. A large band of three-year-olds will parade ] to the post in the second race, with BE STILD getting the call for the winners share of the purse. Her winter campaign at New Orleans was a successful one. She has but to race in her best style to take this field I into camp. STITCHES, on her morning • trials, has to be considered a contender for some part of the purse. GIRASOL may prove best of the others for the short end of | the coin. SHORT PRICE— ALEX WOODLIFFE— THE MAPLE. Another large band of platers will try conclusions • over the three-quarters distance in 1 the third numbtr. SHORT PRICE, which raced at Tijuana the past winter, figures to be the one to be home first. He is a seasoned racer and this may prove an advantage . over the others. ALEX WOODLIFFE may be the one to cause SHORT PRICE the most [ trouble. He will be making his first start t of the year, but his workouts indicate that . j he is ready for one of his best races. TEii MAPLE may be the one to fill the three-hole, CORPORAL— GOLD BET— ARCTURUS. The Aspirant Purse, the fourth race on i the card, seems to be a good spot for R. L. • Freemans CORPORAL to get home in front. . ] I • | • 1 . [ t . j i • . in his first start of the year, the other day, he finished a good third to Rosinante. This race should have done him a world of good in fitting him for todays contest. GOLD BET seems to be the danger of the race. He raced well during the winter season, and a race at his best today should find him up fighting it out with the leaders. ARCTURUS, on his workouts, gets the call for the short end of the purse. FOREHEAD— SOLO— HAPPY BOB. H. G. Bedwell may have the winner of the fifth race in FOREHEAD. The filly wintered well and the dockers say she is ready for a winning race the first time out. SOLO figures to give FOREHEAD a strong argument for top honors. He rounded into his best form during his campaign at Jefferson Park and will take plenty of beating today. HAPPY BOB figures best of the others for the show money. McAULlFFE is an out- sider with a chance to upset calculations. FIREDOG— JUST FOLKS— GAYLY. Platers from the older division will hook up in the sixth race. FIREDOG. a consistent sort of plater, gets the call for top honors. He raced well in the South the past winter and, as the distance and his light impost seem to be in his favor, we look for him to be home the winner. JUST FOLKS seems to like the Bowie track and, taking a line on his races here last fall, he figures to be a strong contender for some part of the purse. GAYLY may be good enough to account for some part of the coin. SCOTLAND FOREVER— HOI POLLOI— BONNY CASTLE. We are looking for SCOTLAND FOREVER to prove a repeater in taking down the win- ners share of the seventh race. He has but to race back to his last race to hand this field a sound beating. HOI POLLOI may be the nearest one to SCOTLAND FOREVER at the finish. The mare has been training well and we look for her to turn in one of her good races here. BONNY CASTLE, which was raced at Havana, will have to be given a chance for some part of the coin. He is a consistent plater and will bear watching.
